I work in a maintenance shop that is openly hostile toward lgbtqia+ identifiers. So “outing” myself as such could (and probably would) jeopardize my wellbeing at work. Then I remember that I’m an electrician with a technicolor mullet. I’m already “outed.” I still might do it.

Hypothesis: our cities are our “indicator species.” I use the word “species” purely as part of the metaphor. In an unhealthy human ecosystem, cities—and the people trapped in them—will suffer most intensely. I expect Philly gonna have a rough time ahead. And I bet Mayor Parker gets blamed.
