Thanks Kevin! Worth reiterating that subscribing to megaplatforms for access cannot end well: they can yank books when they want & hike prices when they want and there is nothing you can do about it because your reading lists etc are locked in. Investing in OA books instead makes much more sense.

In a Jisc webinar, hearing that OUP have charged Manchester Uni more than £20,000 each for two OA books. Absolutely outrageous charges, and absolutely unsurprising to hear it was OUP. A Q abt cost breakdown wasn't answered, but you can bet the prestige premium makes up a hefty chunk of that money.

I am not hearing anything that indicates that institutional support for open research will be assessed for REF 2029. I do not understand how openness is meaningfully appraised by REF's OA policy; research is a process, and framing open as part of an output's delivery misses the point(s) entirely.
