A planned press conference with President Zelensky and the US chief envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg has been cancelled. An American call it seems, with Ukrainian sources saying that Mr Kellogg appears increasingly “sidelined” by the Trump administration.

That Zelensky is in Turkey while the Trump administration reaches out to the Russians (Kremlin sending second-tier, not Naryshkin though) testifies to the crucial role Turkey plays. Ukrainians understand Ankara's balancing act btw Moscow and Kyiv/West but seek deeper ties.

Few concrete results were expected from Paris, it was organised so quickly. Expectations now running high for an additional high-level emergency meeting on/around 24 Feb in Kyiv, hosted by the Ukrainian Govt. At least 13 European leaders expected to attend & senior EU officials

The stuff of (small) nightmares

Not many firm conclusions out of emergency talks in Paris - just a plea from the Europeans for a seat at the table in the negotiations that could shape the future of the continent. Nothing doing, say Washington and Moscow

And if there isn't?

Some quick thoughts on US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s address to the Ukraine Defense Contact Group. Hegseth said the US doesn’t believe NATO membership for 🇺🇦 is a “realistic outcome of a negotiated settlement.” Indeed, NATO membership shouldn’t be negotiated with Russia, it’s up to allies.

"It was unclear how closely Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would be involved."

Austrian coalition talks between the far-right Freedom Party and the centre right collapse - not clear what happens next: new elections, coalition talks between the other parties, or a technocratic caretaker government apnews.com/article/aust...

The student protest movement that started in Serbia is spreading. Students in Bosnia and Montenegro also held rallies today. The common thread: anger over corruption and official impunity. A short 🧵 \1

The Serbian student protest movement is spreading: now students in neighbouring Bosnia are rallying against corruption and demanding accountability. In Serbia, the proximate cause was the canopy collapse in Novi Sad - in Bosnia, last year's deadly floods
