Late night shower thoughts and takeaways from last night’s demonstration, in case you are interested in amateur cultural commentary on the Greek community in Germany. A thread 🧵(1/11)

When I said join your nearest protest, it is because there was probably one near you. I went to the one in Cologne!

The incident report is a heavy document with a lot of information. A key takeaway is how chronic understaffing and underinvestment played a major role behind the collision. Here are some graphs:

Athens, 28.2.2025 (Source: Kathimerini) Apparently the number of demonstrators sits on the high 6 figure amount.

Two years after the incident in Tempi, the accident report has finally been released. You can find it here (in English): www.harsia.gr/wp-content/u...

This Friday (28.2.) marks 2 years since the train collision in Tempi, which ended the lives of 57 people. Two years later new evidence keeps coming out and the government’s lies keep getting louder. If you want to show solidarity, you can join one of the protests taking place worldwide.

How I am manifesting election results I can *tolerate* (Manifesting because I sadly cannot actually count on German voters making the correct decision)

I don’t think the answer is that complicated. Flying is in many cases cheaper and faster - especially when crossing a border is involved. And don’t get me started on what to takes to book an international railway ticket…

Varying stopping patterns on an *airport people mover* is certainly a 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦. Also note the abysmal frequencies for a service that’s supposed to be getting you anytime from the station to the airport terminal.

I have been binge-watching videos about the NYC Subway and I am amazed at the system. How can a single rapid transit network have so much infrastructure? And how can they not use it to the fullest potential?!

One thing that I don’t understand and it infuriates me is how NS keeps demanding a Dutch postal code for renewing subscriptions and ordering a new OV Chipkaart - despite already having a German one saved. Not that I could enter my German postal code myself, I had to do that in a ticket office 🙄
