For #adoorablethursday here is one I passed yesterday, 118 Micklegate, York. The house was built in the 1740s, the doorcase was added in 1763. I love it's wonkiness. #MicklegateYork #pencil #drawing #illustration #ArtYear

The bit of York bar walls where it meets the North Street Postern. The pointy tip of the Postern tower, currently home to the Perky Peacock coffee shop, can just be seen, + Lendal Tower across the river. #PenArt #pen #drawing #sketchbook #illustration #ArtYear

St Leonard's Hospital, Museum Street, York. This hospital was rebuilt after a fire in 1137. #pencil #drawing #illustration #ArtYear

Bulls Dairies, 46 Regent Street, Cambridge. The shop has changed hands since the dairy had it. The cow has found new pastures elsewhere too. #Pencil #drawing #illustration #ArtYear

The cholera burial ground, Station Road, York. Dating from 1832-33 for the victims of the York cholera epidemic of 1832. It affected at least 450 people and caused 185 deaths in a city population of 25,357. #sketchbook #drawing #illustration #ArtYear

The Barbican Gate, Sandwich, Kent. There is a fragment of the town wall still attached on the left, a house extension on the right. The gate originally opened onto a quayside. Gunports near ground level added after a 14th century French raid. #SandwichKent #pencil #drawing ##ArtYear

Some of our defences are in better condition than others. The FW3/28a pillbox defending Bodiam Castle in East Sussex proves it, though it didn't stop this 8 year old storming the castle. #FortressFriday #drawing #illustration

As it's #FortressFriday here are some pillboxes on the beach at Crimdon Dene, Hartlepool. They haven't fared well, the sea showing its power over the 80+ years since they were built to protect vital industry on the Tees Estuary. #drawing #illustration #sketchbook #ArtYear

74-78 Low Petergate, York. Medieval buildings, 15th-16th century with a fascinating inserted doorway with an arch leading to rear courtyard. @yvbsg.bsky.social @grimartgroup.bsky.social #pencil #illustration #ArtYear

It's the Yorvik Viking Festival 2025 this week. Here are some other Vikings from earlier events & the Viking village at the Museum of Farming at Murton near York. #YorvikFestival #York #drawing #illustration #ArtYear

A while back my wife & I saw an exhibition about Winnie the Pooh in London. Plenty to draw: the Victoria & Albert Museum cafe, a bit of E H Shepherd & Kings Cross station. #pen #drawing #illustration #sketchbook #ArtYear

A bit of a ship's timber at 13 Stonegate, York. The Teddy Bear Shop has a 17th century figurehead spliced into the corner post supporting the 15th century dragon beam. @yvbsg.bsky.social #pencil #drawing #illustration #ArtYear

Sculpted figures of York Minster Chapter House. I drew these figures back in 2016. The Chapter House dates from the 1290s but the figure carving looks remarkably modern. @yorkminster.bsky.social #pencil #watercolour #ArtYear #illustration

Mad Alice Lane, York. The snicket that connects Swinegate with Low Petergate, also called Lunds Court. Alice was reputed to have committed murder, one of York's urban myths. Medieval buildings lurk up the lane. @grimartgroup.bsky.social #pen #drawing #ArtYear
