quick Q for anyone who's able to peek into the internals of Shinyuden/Ratalaika's recent "Justice Ninja Casey" reissue: can you A/B the ROMs with the publicly-available dumps? there are errors when playing the JP-language version that suggest they used the unfinished beta ROM & never tested it

username "dpqsr", for the curious www.elotrolado.net/hilo_retro-b... 🇪🇸 reading this is slow going but putting aside just how flimsy all their deflections are, dude's outing themselves as an extremely limited and inefficient modder on top of everything else—they can't even /steal/ efficiently

For anyone curious about our output last year (we continued to publish at a slightly reduced pace), our editor/translator GSK did a detailed write-up that you can read here!

And finally, a long-awaited patron request, we have two pinball-themed developer interviews: from KAZe (the developer of several digital pinball titles on the Saturn/SFC) and Satoshi Matsuoka, the HAL Laboratory programmer who created the original Famicom Pinball. shmuplations.com/pinball/

Next we have a lengthy Mario Kart: Double Dash interview from 2003, with Tadashi Sugiyama, Shinya Takahashi, and Kiyoshi Mizuki. After some brief introductions, they discuss course design, the differences between DD and MK64, and more. We'll be publishing part 2 soon! shmuplations.com/doubledash/

First up today is this Sonic Adventure interview from 1998 with Yuji Naka, Takashi Iizuka, and several others. Conducted just after the development wrapped, it's a bit promotional and self-congratulatory in tone, but good design tidbits are peppered throughout. shmuplations.com/sonicadventu...

veteran doujin action-puzzle veteran yanaboh is gearing up for their first global commercial release: SINGOU BREAKA / シンゴウブレイカ, a traffic light-themed grid-based puzzle game with a unique sign-flipping chaining gimmick store.steampowered.com/app/3506550/... www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0oL...

Nintendo's ending their Gold Points rewards program on March 25 my.nintendo.com/news/97495f3... I'd occasionally rattle off a "here are interesting <$3 games you can get for free using the coins from a $60 game" list whenever a big first-party game would drop—one more for the road, eh? (thread)

thx! I will say that, for every word of encouragement I've received thus far, I might've gotten just as many private side-eyes over the logo

new logo day! shouts out to Chop The Head Studios

much appreciated! I presume you're thinking of the book I was working on as a companion to the Genesis Mini… long story short, I flew too close to the sun re: requesting interviews from people/orgs that don't collaborate with indie publications and it complicated things to the point where I gave up

heads up: shmuplations now has an official bsky presence! if you wanna keep tabs on newly-translated vintage game developer interviews, leave a tip for interesting/untranslated material, ask questions or anything else, follow @shmuplations.bsky.social

a non-zero amount of people (ie One) noted that 2/5 passed with no word from me, so here I am: in short, everything's on track & the launch remains imminent, I've just been hit with some unforeseen matters in my day-to-day that require my attention definitely within the month, maybe within the week

thank shmuplations.com 400+ interviews and counting! I see some people half-jokingly saying "[x]'s not retro!"—the vast majority of the interviews are sourced from older material but very occasionally skew more recent due to commissions, demand from patrons etc www.patreon.com/shmuplations

lemme re-emphasise something that is mentioned in this piece but bears repeating: Nintendo's site lets you browse & buy eshop games with most of the filtering criteria one would expect from the actual console store, and it loads a thousand times quicker to boot www.nintendo.com/us/store/gam...
