Went to the Pérez Art Museum while I was in Miami and the security guard 1. told me that I needed to see this piece and 2. made me pull out my phone and google the artist (Calida Rawles)

Y'all know what Kendrick said two weeks ago, they can rig the game but they can't fake influence.

Emmanuel “Manno” Bernoon, a former slave, opened one of the first restaurants in Rhode Island with his wife in the 1700s — and America may owe its love for oysters to their efforts

"In a world where representation is often weaponized simply to get eyes on screens, A THOUSAND BLOWS stands out as a thrilling and heartfelt examination of race and class in 19th-century London." Read Kaiya Shunyata review of the new Hulu series:

In America, especially the Deep South, we work very very hard to keep people in poverty because it makes fast food owners and waffle house proprietors money. And they get local lords of huge swaths of desperate people. The 3% enrollment is the point. www.propublica.org/article/geor...

I think I need these

Warren “was a vocal opponent of the Republican president during his first term … On Saturday, the more than 1,000 people who packed into Nevins Hall in the Framingham Memorial Building in Framingham had just one message for the Cambridge lawmaker: Keep it up.” www.masslive.com/politics/202...

1998. "I have a horror of... men & women who are consumed by hate & distrust, who cloak their bigotry & intolerance in high-sounding moral & religious principles. Such are the rabid Republicans.... I hope one went to the judge in the case where he’s pretending he has no actual power

The attacks on DEI are a pretext for a much more radical agenda of reversing the gains of the civil rights movement, an objective the Trump administration is pursuing with zeal. A Great Resegregation. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Folks, whatever we think Diddy did… it’s worse than that. https://nypost.com/2025/02/21/us-news/sean-diddy-combs-lawyer-quits-sex-trafficking-case-under-no-circumstances-can-i-continue/

“That is why Trumpists are so focused on “ending DEI” in the federal workforce. They see anti-discrimination and inclusion as a ladder of upward mobility for people they do not believe should have one.”

Yes @adamserwer.bsky.social gets it right. But for all these reasons, it is necessarily an attack on the 14th Amendment. We have to start talking about it in constitutional terms. Because that is what they are resisting.

Several good things are happening according r/fednews so I am going to drop them here. If federal workers are fighting back, how much more us? A thread/

I finally got through to my 22 year old cousin yesterday. He lives in Philly and was almost going to vote for Tr*mp when I convinced him not to vote at all rather than affirmatively giving him his vote. We talked yesterday and I said: "you were being lied to by rich white men." And he got it.

When people want to talk to me about the backlash against US higher ed but don't want to mention racism, this is one of the key reasons I become very annoyed (Also the data used to create this post had its contract canceled this month so are won't be able to track things like this in the future)

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

So many wolves in so many hen houses

Of course the person who was promoted because of their race in this exchange is actually Hegseth, whose only qualification beyond being a white male is bootlicking sycophancy.

The poster child for white male mediocrity, Pete Hegseth, is firing qualified Black men and women from the military.

This is paying back the Oiligarchy, whose deadly product is threatened by EVs. Trump’s war on a livable earth. #climate #climatecrisis
