Good news: The deadname bill (HB246) is dead! Bad news: the drag ban (HB67) and Don't Say Gay expansion (HB244) are still in play. Keep calling your AL Senator and demand they oppose both bills: altrac.works

House Bills 67 and 244, both anti-trans bills, are up for public hearings in committee this week. Join ALTRAC in Montgomery tomorrow and Wednesday - let’s tell our legislators once again, Alabama does NOT need these bills! (If you can’t tell them in person, call or write. We’ll help: altrac.works)

Another week, another vote on another bad bill. House Bill 246, yet another “Don’t Say Gay” bill (seriously), is slated for a vote in the House Education Policy committee tomorrow. Call and write to your rep today - HB246 needs to die in committee. We’ll help you send a strong message: ALTRAC.works

House Bill 244, the expansion of “Don’t Say Gay,” is slated for a vote in the House of Representatives tomorrow. Call and write to your rep tonight - even if you already did so when the bill was in Committee. Tell them to vote NO on HB244. We’ll help: ALTRAC.works

HB244 is scheduled for a vote this Wednesday, April 9, and we’re not out of the woods on HB246 yet either. Call and write your rep and the Education Policy Committee members now - tell them to kill both of these “Don’t Say Gay” bills! We’ll show you how: ALTRAC.works

Big shout to @50501movement.bsky.social for doing the heavy lifting at yesterday’s #HandsOff protest, resulting in one of Huntsville’s largest protests ever!💙 We couldn’t have done it without the support of all our local communities! #UnitedWeStandDividedWeFall @indivisible.org #Indivisible #Alabama

ALTRAC and @at-the-root.bsky.social continue our fight against the far-right extremists who are attempting to erase trans and queer Alabamians from public life by attacking the public library. Read our full statement here: altrac.link/apls

Join @at-the-root.bsky.social at Big Spring Park this Sunday to mourn the loss of intellectual freedom in our libraries.

This week of the legislative session, we're tracking the "Trans Youth Erasure" and "Jail Librarians" bills, as well as two "Don't Say Gay" bills. What a mess! Tell your representative to kill these poorly-written anti-queer bills before they leave committee. We'll show you how: altrac.works

We're teaming up with @altrac.works to combat AL HB4 (2025), which seeks to criminalize gender nonconformity and force library workers to censor trans and GNC materials and patrons. Please visit altrac.works and help us fight this and other transphobic legislation.

The “What Is a Woman” Act has passed, but we’re not going to stop fighting. What we saw this week was a true turning point in Alabama queer rights history - YOU made a difference.

Via @annabjournalist.bsky.social: “And now those of us who are actually affected by it will have to find a way to live under the discrimination it legalizes, because we certainly aren’t going anywhere,” said Allison Montgomery, a volunteer with the Alabama Transgender Rights Action Coalition.

"When the most vulnerable students feel seen and cared for, school is more united and safe for all." My latest for @al.com on new bills targeting the Alabama LGBTQ community. With comments from @glaad.bsky.social and @altrac.works. www.al.com/educationlab...

Senate Bill 79 (SB79), the “What Is a Woman” Act, is slated for a hearing TOMORROW (Feb 11). House Bill 67 (HB67), which could punish innocent transgender Alabamians simply for being present at schools or libraries, has a hearing on Wednesday (Feb 12). Call or write your reps now at altrac.works!

Went to Montgomery today to cover the "March Without Labels" event. Hundreds showed up to demand LGBTQ rights. Story for @al.com www.al.com/news/2025/02...

On Feb 5, we’ll be hosting an Advocacy Day in Montgomery. Come make your voice heard by speaking to your lawmakers in person! We’ll help you prepare beforehand, too. altrac.link/stand

We've been helping to block anti-queer bills in the state legislature since 2023 — and it's working. If you're in Alabama, sign up for our email list! We'll keep you updated on the status of these bills and make it easy for you to make a difference. Welcome to the coalition. altrac.works
