When she goes the the hospital, she should send out her Harvard-trained doctor and demand a plumber.

THANK YOU.

A new book reignited discussion last week about Joe Biden’s age-related decline, characterizing it as a “coverup.” But that conceals a more prosaic, and sadder, true story.

I said it would get worse very quickly. By tomorrow we will have completed the most dangerous & frightening 24 hours thus far of Trump 2.0. Just to name a few: 1. Defiance of a court order by sending migrants to Sudan without due process (despite clear DP decision SCOTUS) & Dist. CT. order.

He may be suffering setbacks in the courts and his poll numbers may be falling, but in the game to undermine U.S. democracy, Trump is doing great. Last week was a dark case in point.

"Average voters won't trust us until we dump on Biden more" is the most transparently self-serving horseshit I have ever heard in my life.

If you’re relying on Politico or Axios for your political news, why do you hate yourself?

Politics is the acquisition and exercise of power. The idea that we shouldn’t primary lame, often disloyal Ds in safe seats out of some sense of patrician propriety is dumb. But we also shouldn’t primary moderate Ds in unsafe seats because getting a majority is crucial.

“The generation no one ever thought about” is a perfect 7-word definition of Gen X.

Now nearly a half century old, Star Wars has become a fixed touchstone we can revisit to understand how much the earth around it has moved. And boy, have things moved a lot in the past ten years.

You’re allowed to argue that black people and women are genetically inferior. But you’re NOT allowed to argue they are NOT inferior because that’s divisive. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/09/u...

Protestors are private citizens and the way they dress is a matter of privacy and speech. Your opinion is beside the point. But cops are civil servants accountable to the public. Giant difference.

I found the original trilogy and watched it for the first time in 20 years. David is totally correct below, but I’d add one point of irony. Lucas was great with action set pieces. This is what people loved. He’s terrible with human behavior. So obviously, he pursued the latter as the series wore on.

No one is going to argue that things are well in America. But after a disastrous and incompetent hundred days of Trump, the resistance has begun to coalesce.

new life goal: never let anyone from the NYT sketch my likeness

2+2 = A) 4 B) Apple A plurality of people chose “apple,” and here we are.

When the tea party started protesting in 2009, every media org devoted full, front-page coverage to it for months. They were *breathless* to understand what motivated the protestors. (They then completely got it wrong.) The news is wired for the GOP.

Pizzaballa?? Pizzaballa!

Five years ago.

With Trump, a prisoner’s dilemma is no dilemma at all.

NEW from me: A whistleblower says DOGE may have taken sensitive labor data...and then someone posted a threatening letter to his door. www.npr.org/2025/04/15/n...

The whole world has been desperately trying to figure out Trump’s rationale for his shifting slate of tariffs, trying to mitigate their worst damage. They’re thinking about it all wrong.

I hope so.

Marco Rubio just announced 10 more people were sent to be imprisoned in CECOT. They were flown there from Gitmo to be imprisoned potentially for life based not on any crime for which they were convicted, but on unproven allegations of gang membership with no due process. This is not lawful.

I can’t imagine a more carefully-calibrated, meticulous approach to managing American trade.

“I know what the hell I’m doing." - President Donald Trump, April 8th, 2025.

How it started/how it’s going.

I can’t imagine a more carefully-calibrated, meticulous approach to managing American trade.

Senator Adam Schiff has announced that, due to the chaos surrounding tariff policy, he will investigate whether anyone engaged in insider trading. Trump may be immune from prosecution, but those around him are not. — It’s time to decimate this MAGA circle.

What a fucking clown show our country is.

The great thing about the Great Depression was the price of real estate. So low!

Since Trump announced his tariffs, people have been buying and selling on the stock market en masse. It doesn’t matter. If people are buying or selling tech or blue chip or individual stocks, they’re doing so out of a generalized sense of where the market is headed, not individual performance.

The stock market is in freefall, people are at risk of losing their social security checks, and the price of coffee is about to hit $7 a cup. Surely it can’t be that hard to discuss why this is bad.

Liberals are so ungrateful. President Trump has followed through on his biggest promise and made every stock cheaper by 10% in America after years of record price inflation. Have they ever even said thank you once?

I have tariffed the penguins that are on Heard Island and which you were probably assuming did not export goods forgive me they were taking advantage of us so cunning and so cold

It's getting buried, but Houston will almost certainly not have representation in Congress until January 2027. Democratic Rep. Sylvester Turner died nearly a month ago and Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott has simply decided not to call a special election to fill the seat.

President Trump announced his new slate of tariffs yesterday afternoon, and they’re larger and stupider than anyone expected.

Elections in Florida and Wisconsin aren’t going to make or break American democracy, but they may appreciably shift its trajectory.

There is so much 😬 about this report: “in months,” “system collapse,” “quickly,” “generative AI.”
