Some odd reactions to this list of the 20th century novels which have sold best in the UK in the last five years. It doesn’t seek to represent literary merit; it’s a fascinating snapshot of where popularity and critical acclaim do and don’t overlap.

Writing is thinking. It’s not a part of the process that can be skipped; it’s the entire point.

Just saw a post from an author (I forget who, sorry!) talking about not being afraid to celebrate success. I agree but I also think one of the problems with social media is that people only post the good stuff, and it creates an unrealistic narrative. Sharing our failures is just as important. 🧵

What, you want me to sell you the right to have AI scrape my work? What's the offer? $2,500 a book? Okay, here's my counteroffer: Go fuck yourself lithub.com/harpercollin...

@hoffiecup.bsky.social and I are building some new presentations to encourage teachers and librarians to build more inclusive libraries and get more authentic, joyful representation in the hands of kiddos of all ages! Drop suggestions here for own voices books we should include!

This is really concerning for myriad reasons. @wildhuntbooks.bsky.social we started to insert a no AI scraping notice on our copyright pages going forward in 2025. lithub.com/harpercollin...

Books can help. Love this article in today’s Post. When times get tough, I turn to Patrick O’Brian. (I am ready to board for my fifth circumnavigation.) But maybe it’s time to crack open Dorothy Dunnett instead? Who do you read in times of trouble? I need suggestions, friends!

A call to all un-agented authors who have written a sweeping historical love story. My submissions are open, and I am waiting to read your book. www.dhhliteraryagency.com/david-h-head...

Lots of people know that prehistoric sea turtles got big, but it can be easy to underestimate just how huge these things got. The largest verified specimen of a modern Leatherback turtle weighed in at 1,433 lbs, but this Archelon would have been closer to 11,300 lbs. #scicomm #paleosky #paleontology

Nothing good has ever come from banning books. Representation matters.

Really looking forward to getting my hands on this next month. It has such an old-school 2000AD vibe to it.

Also, Dominick Donald putting me alongside some crime writing greats is both humbling and flattering — and quite out of the blue. Not something I was expecting. Thank you so much, Dominick. Really appreciated. 😊

Dom Nolan being very generous about my debut on the other place. Love that he refers to my originally self-pub’d version (left) as the “mad hustle edition.” Thanks very much, Dom. 😊👍🏼

Hotel del Salto (hotel of the leap) has witnessed many horrors in its 100 years. Patrons have inexplicably leapt to their death, a young socialite was brutally murdered. Never visit after dark, for it is Columbia’s most haunted house. #31DaysofHalloween #WyrdWednesday

So, as well as having to hope the lawsuits in the US come down hard and heavy on the companies who've used my (and several others') books to train their AI, I also have to ask how part of one of my books has ended up on Spotify for paying subscribers, without me ever being told it was possible
