In a couple of weeks time I’m talking about why rolling tennis balls across a classroom is the most stupid thing I’ve ever done 🎾 Come and join 👍

Today consists of making planes from Cuisenaire Rods 😄✈️

I had fun yesterday getting my scholars to “accurately draw this triangle” 😅

A rookie mistake in a MWB check from me this week 🤦‍♂️😅

If I can add my own spicy take similar to this, Covid isn’t fully to blame for the fracturing of home-school relationships, poorer behaviour and attendance as well as worsening MH issues. It accelerated it; but things were getting worse before then. Social media IMO is the real culprit.

I've spent this evening making a second "Is it plausible?" worksheet as my first one was really successful with my Y11's. I've tried to add more money sense questions into this one to help. www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/f60tq... Hope it helps 🙂

“Say you’ve got two toddlers without saying you’ve got two toddlers” 😐

I love using shadow papers for feedback lessons, it feels like such a quick win for students (this is how you should have done it, have a go at it again) and it’s great quick win for success and motivation. Really quick to put together too 👍

I’ve moved to this method recently too. Definitely makes more sense and has a better links to expanding if you do that via a grid too 👍

One of my favourite things this week was playing "Is it plausible?" with my intervention class on MWBs. I gave them some scenarios and discussed whether or not they were plausible... I've made a worksheet of it now with answers👍 www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/lfsy5... #mathschat

Really looking forward to discussing booklets at #mathsconf36 next weekend 😊

Really enjoyed teaching significant figures and bounds this week. Started off with stuff such as “how much money would actually ask your parents/carers for?” when buying some items, followed later by “give me a number that rounds to 27, that no-one else will put…”

New! My 181st gems post. Ideas, resources and updates for maths teachers. 💎 www.resourceaholic.com/2024/09/5-ma... #ukmathschat

#MathsToday #ButYesterdayBecauseIForgot Used this with my 10s post-surds for some reasoning. Love how every time I use this it really hones in on place value as the challenge rather than anything to do with calculation.

Also (though it possibly needs some rearranging) made a "Sometimes, Always, Never" on parts of a circle that I've got to say... I'm pretty chuffed with 👍 #mathschat

This morning's consisted of more task making for fractions problems. "I've used circles, can't really call it a spider diagram then. Got any ideas?" "Bubble map?" Bubble map 👍 🤷‍♂️🫧 #mathschat

Planning my part of our #Mathsconf36 presentation on booklets. Reflecting on what I’ve done in the past, I’ve deffo made some mistakes 😅 (I’m also convinced booklets really are the game changer and look forward to getting that across 😁)

Something I’ve been better at getting into the habit of is asking the question first, giving appropriate thinking time, then asking the student. Peps McCrea is sharing some great illustrations as to the benefit of this. #rED24

Made it to #rED24 today, really looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned (and what I’m learning to do about it!) about the curse of knowledge during session 6 in K12 😊

#GCSEstatistics resources for anyone unaware and needing here ⬇️

Does anyone have any good GCSE statistics resources websites they go to please? #mathschat

I took the liberty of making a starter pack for all the speakers at #rED24 so people can follow as many of them and there are two feeds as well. please share go.bsky.app/6C8kW2C

The alarm’s back on ⏰ Good luck to everyone back at the chalkboard tomorrow 😊 Extra good luck to anyone starting somewhere new, always ask the questions you need answering 👍

Maybe going back to work is a good idea… We’ve just had baby shark on for 40 minutes straight 😓

It’s a “build dodgy towers out of Cuisenaire rods and destroy them” day here today 😅

Solidarity, nervous headteachers like me! Best of luck for tomorrow 💪

New! A post that summarises some of the developments, trends and resources for maths teachers from the past year. Kind of like a mega-gems-catch-up post to make sure everyone is up-to-date. 💎 www.resourceaholic.com/2024/08/late... #ukmathschat
