My toddler has learned how to ask “What’s this?” about everything she doesn’t know the name for. Meanwhile, my third grader asked me “Mommy, what’s Juneteenth?” One is ontological, the other epistemological, though there may be a little of each in the other. I hope my answers were good enough!

Kudos to my daughter's music teacher at school, who is having all the third graders play the tune of "Old Town Road" on the recorder as the "recorder performance black belt" qualifying song 😂 She left the title off the page, so that all the parents could "name that tune" at leisure

I used a Taiyupian to talk about the aesthetics of shot composition yesterday. My students got it right away and found their own shots in two additional film sequences that I showed them. I don't think it's said enough: commercial film can be (conventionally) beautiful.
