The illusion of the year contest in the New York Times!!! www.nytimes.com/2025/06/26/s.... Vote now: vote.illusionoftheyear.com

🔔 Excited to share this new article led by Nicholas Waters and co-authored with Sammy Ahmed on SES and academic achievement www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

I am excited to announce my first ever paper (w/ @samiyousif.bsky.social ) about a new illusion of *number*: the “Crowd Size Illusion”. osf.io/preprints/ps...

I'm now ready to share a rough DRAFT of the teaching resources list for cognitive psychology I've been compiling. As you'll see, I could use further help from you, esp. where there are no entries yet. Pls take a look & share your favorite resources.🙏 I'll keep updating the list this summer. Thanks!

I didn't know that this post about cats' sleeping positions was based on a new study published in Current Biology: doi.org/10.1016/j.cu... What I loved about this short piece is that it comes w/ this cute animated video abstract. I'd love to see more such fun video abstracts for scientific papers!

Those new videos they posed on the Best Illusion of the Year Contest channel on YouTube turned out to be the 10 (not 11) FINALISTS for the 2024 contest. You can now VOTE for your favorite illusions & help determine the winner by going to the page👇 & rating each illusion (1 to 5 stars). Enjoy!

If you enjoy visual illusions, the Best Illusion of the Year Contest channel on YouTube started to post new illusion videos from the 2024 contest (11 new ones posted in the last couple of days). Check them out.

🎉 After 2 years of work, our #OpenScience guide for researchers in developing countries is LIVE! Check out our new preprint: osf.io/preprints/ps... We map the opportunities 🌟 + barriers 🧱 facing Global South researchers. *(1/4)*

When I adopted Hunter, he was only 4 months old & tiny (left). He just turned 4 today (right). #CatsofBluesky #cats

I had thought that the McGurk effect is robust, but this paper (tinyurl.com/4yjetwnv) reports HUGE variability across individuals (0 to 100%) & cautions against "relying on summary statistics averaged across a population." I now wonder what other well-known effects may show such variability.🤔

Just tried this… it’s a whole feed of posts and threads about academic papers from your follows! Neat!

It's a summer conference season, so I thought I'd tell you about the tremendous efforts our conservation biology colleagues have been making to make conferences more INCLUSIVE & friendly to early career researchers (ECRs) not fluent in English. I find their accomplishments truly inspiring. 🧵(1/10)

Music is universal. It varies more within than between societies and can be described by a few key dimensions. That’s because brains operate by using the raw materials of music: oscillations (brainwaves). www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... #neuroscience

I just finished @maryellenmacdonald.bsky.social's (audio)book today. I really LOVED it! The book argues that talking involves hard work, & regularly meeting this extra cognitive demand has broad impacts on our daily lives (e.g., thinking, attention, learning, aging, mental health, prejudice). It's freakishly hot 🫠, & I've been craving for bingsu, a Korean shaved ice dessert. @yukomunakata.bsky.social introduced me to bingsu (@MandRo Teahouse) when I visited them in May. It was amazing! If you haven't had bingsu, give it a try. Sadly, the closest place serving bingsu is >30 miles away.😢
