That Death Stranding 2 trailer is wild! The first one is a game I look back on more fondly as time goes by. The closing chapters really hampered my overall enjoyment but the first half is fantastic. I'm excited to see they can do with a sequel.

My GOTY 2024 list is now live! Kudos to @sunsetvisitor.studio, @mossmouth.bsky.social, @localthunk.bsky.social, @animalwell.bsky.social, @cavesofqud.com, @simogo.com, @arcogamedev.bsky.social, and many more for creating such memorable experiences that I loved. lootall.wordpress.com/2025/01/05/g...

The Steam Deck has been such a game changer for me. When I come home from work I'm much more likely to sit on the couch and load something up on the Deck than I am to go to my desktop.

I just beat Arco and that's definitely going on my GOTY list. The real-time/turn-based hybrid combat is some of the best of the year and it's impressive how the game presents in-depth characterizations and emotional gut punches with such a subdued, sparse script.

If you get anything during the Steam sale, make it 1000xRESIST by @sunsetvisitor.bsky.social. It’s weird, bold, heartfelt, and tackles deep topics like COVID, the 2019 Hong Kong protests, and Asian diaspora all within a unique sci-fi world. Easily my GOTY. store.steampowered.com/app/1675830/...

Here is the second entry in my PlayStation Pastime series in which I check out PS1 games I missed out on. In this edition I look at a Japan-only dungeon crawler, an iconic PlayStation racer, the origin story of FromSoftware, and more! www.giantbomb.com/profile/amla...

I've been inspired to take my very first foray into video production with a review of Barbuta from the incredible UFO 50 by @mossmouth.bsky.social, @strotchy.bsky.social, and company! The plan is to do a short review of all 50 games over time. youtu.be/4cECZ5avniY

King's Field has been vanquished! 💪It certainly wasn't the easiest game to get into and it runs really poorly, but boy did I fall in love with it nonetheless. I can see some of that Souls magic in there, warts and all. Time to jump into the sequel!

I've been on a big retro kick lately (due in large part to Sean Seanson's wonderful YouTube videos), so I've decided to start a new blog series in which I check out a variety of PS1 games I missed out on in my youth. Here's the first entry! lootall.wordpress.com/2024/05/05/p...

My wife and I have released the second episode of Festive Flops, a podcast in which we discuss Christmas romcoms gone wrong. Give it a listen! podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jil...

I've been spending a lot of time with my Playdate over the last few weeks, so I wrote a bunch of words about it and ended my (very long) blog post hiatus. lootall.wordpress.com/2024/04/04/r...

The Balatro demo alone might be my favorite game of the year so far. I'm going to spend SO much time playing roguelike poker in 2024.

Here's my 2023 GOTY list. I'm getting it out later than usual, but three of the games on my list I played for the first time in December, so sometimes it's worth the wait! www.giantbomb.com/profile/amla...

I happen to be playing two separate climbing games - A Highland Song and Jusant, both of which are excellent - and I'm blown away by their visuals. Incredible vistas every few minutes. I keep getting distracted taking screenshots!

Cocoon, on the other hand, didn't challenge too much in its puzzle design, but it absolutely NAILS its tone and atmosphere. An audiovisual wonder. (2/2)

I beat two fantastic games recently. Chants of Sennaar is a very novel puzzle game that revolves around deciphering various languages in a Babel-style tower. I love a game that leans into anthropological themes and it constantly made me feel clever. (1/2)

Hopping on the top 25 games bandwagon! (presented in alphabetical order)

I beat Blasphemous 2 today and it's easily one of my favorite games of the year (aside from a crazy difficulty spike at the end that sours the closing hours). Top notch Metroidvania level design with some great weapons and platforming. And the art and tone are one-of-a-kind.

I've been playing Void Stranger on my Steam Deck this week. It seems like it has a potentially WILD rabbit hole of cryptic secrets/mechanics. Might be a bit too cryptic for me, but it's still a wonderfully designed Sokobon-style puzzle game. 207 floors completed at this point.

I beat Pikmin 4 today. Seems like there’s a lot of post-game content but I’m ready to take a break (especially after getting 100% in each area). I would have preferred a tighter 10-12 hour experience, though Oatchi and upgrades were great additions to the core gameplay loop.
