Not a fan of corporate virtue signaling but right now it feels important to stand up and be counted. We’re determined to stand firmly behind our mission, our values and our principles, & against censorship & any attempt to compromise the core principles of scientific inquiry. tinyurl.com/vndz2j5w

Excellent piece from PLOS co-founder and Nobel laureate, Harold Varmus: "If the attacks on our scientists and their institutions are allowed to continue, our envisioned future of longer, healthier lives will happen more slowly, in other countries, or not at all." www.nytimes.com/2025/02/14/o...

"Even as the cold dark night bites, however, all who work for justice need to remember that we are not the dying day, we are the readying dawn. Let us commit not to scrolling doom but to writing hope. Don’t stop talking about tomorrow." speakingofmedicine.plos.org/2025/02/13/w...

I needed this today. As we all try to navigate the seemingly endless barrage of change, this is a reminder that we all have agency to make a positive difference whether we're leaders or not. Love all the practical tips! scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2025/02/11/d...

Big deals may have been good for the largest commercial publishers but "the result is a less diverse and more monopolistic publishing environment, where new models struggle to thrive". Glad to see UK universities taking concrete action to reposition. www.researchprofessionalnews.com/rr-news-uk-u...

A grim and heartbreaking morning here in Southern California. In spite of 70-90mph wind gusts, we're lucky to be safe but the devastation is unthinkable, and we're not done yet. Please keep SoCal in your thoughts. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/01...

Happy holidays from a very chill walk along the beach in Malibu - hope everyone here is enjoying some good R&R after a tumultuous year. (Just dropping by to post this - I'm offline for the holiday period, part of my regular social media breaks.)

Honestly, I think we'd be naive to expect any platform to be able to avoid the dark stuff. It will be better here...until it isn't and we move on again. I was VERY torn about joining as I frankly haven't missed SM over the past 12 months but am much more disciplined about how I engage.

Thanks to @madhupai.bsky.social for putting together this starter pack where you can also find all of our journals and editors: go.bsky.app/5nHQzbg

Congratulations to PLOS at @amudditt.bsky.social as this is a great gift for them. I have deeply admired PLOS's commitment to open access and fair distribution of research to the global public. I wish other publishers would follow suit. 🧪 🧬 💻

Thrilled to share news of a generous $3.3M grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support PLOS's commitment to pioneer a shift away from traditional publishing models and APCs - learn more about our plans below. theplosblog.plos.org/2024/12/plos...

After ditching Twitter and FaceBook in early 2023, I've been lured here by promises of an early-era Twitter vibe. Don't disappoint me!
