"The climatic impacts of releasing fossil fuel CO2 to the atmosphere will last longer than Stonehenge. Longer than time capsules, longer than nuclear waste, far longer than the age of human civilization so far." David Archer, Professor of Geophysical Sciences at the University of Chicago.

Breaking news Massive methane leaks detected in Antarctica, up to 700 meters long and 70 meters wide, creating future potential of huge landslides that could generate tsunamis “It is like ice that you could set on fire and it would burn,” #climate english.elpais.com/climate/2025...

🚨🪸💀 1.2°C, 350ppm New research shows that the tipping point thresholds for warm-water coral reefs (upon which hundreds of millions of people rely) have already been breached! Considerations for determining warm-water coral reef tipping points esd.copernicus.org/articles/16/...

Your 'bonus moment of doom' for today. "If many climate-watchers expected the world to cool slightly this year thanks to the natural “La Niña” phenomena, the climate itself didn’t seem to get the memo." theconversation.com/record-janua...

Why do i combine climate activism with a campaign against classified child abuse? 📃🕵️ This thread contains 2 documents on 16 slides.

Your 'bonus moment of doom' for today: troll-free! "Scientists say the current period is likely to be the warmest the planet has been in 125,000 years." www.theguardian.com/environment/...

The collapse of global industrial civilization is happening much faster than expected. It hurts terribly to watch these evil people do their evil things. But I keep returning to the truth that the faster modern civilization is gone, the better off everything else will be. Is it good or bad?

Temperatures at the north pole soared more than 20C (38F) above average on Sunday, crossing the threshold for ice to melt

Global sea-ice extent data through Feb. 1 just came in. (The data is from Japan, on the other side of the international date line). Will we see a new record yearly low? The climate 8-ball is exhausted and is refusing to make a prediction.

Damn right There is zero serious preparation for the mayhem #climate breakdown is now certain to bring Setting aside floods and wildfires, extended 40C+ heatwaves will mean millions will need to camp outside their poorly insulated homes www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

🌡️🌍📈 January 2025 was +1.74°C! Another record hot month, 0.08°C warmer than January 2024, which was impacted by an El Niño, while we now have a La Niña cooling things down somewhat. Global warming has accelerated!

There is no more important challenge than the climate emergency. That is why I will vote against Heathrow expansion. Climate campaigners have defeated this before — and we will fight back again.

🚨 BREAKING: MASS APPEAL FOR JUST STOP OIL SUPPORTERS 🔥 16 people are appealing their draconian sentences at the Court of Appeal, after they have received combined prison sentences of 41 years.

🎈 Just Stop Oil supporters brought a balloon for every person who has spent time in prison since the beginning of the campaign to the Royal Courts of Justice this morning. 🖋️ Sign up to Reclaim Parliament this April: juststopoil.org/spring-2025 First photo: IMDmilo.com/alamy

As of January 28, 2025, Arctic sea-ice extent is currently ranked second lowest for the day. With the upcoming Arctic heatwave (up to 28°C/50°F above average in certain parts), I expect sea ice extent will be at a record daily low within a week. Will there be a record low maximum? Stay tuned!

Yet one more astonishingly naive view of where we are headed that barely acknowledges #climate breakdown Make no mistake, this will underpin everything in the decades to come as global society and economy unravel All else is as nothing in comparison www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Many thought and think that James Hansen overestimates, or even exaggerates the risks of climate change. The data ('even' IPCC consensus) shows that he likely underestimated things. Our current estimates might still be underestimates. We ignore the warning signs at our own peril.
