I have a lot of grading to do, a conference paper to write, and a book to work on so of course I made cinnamon rhubarb muffins.

I was obsessing about this cute gull fam on the roof and saw it live! Habemus papam!!!

Sure, let's go all in on AI doing all the things. Because obviously this is the kind of "ruler" Paul meant. 🤪 🤣

Super niche ask on numismatics: We have a Helena Augusta coin in our archives that's been identified as a medieval forgery. I know what I'm looking at with coins struck in late antiquity but I'm interested in the why and how of a forgery. Numismatics peeps: I'd love to get your thoughts on it!

Love me a good story with great characters, especially ones that inspire us to directly challenge exploitative power and oppression. May the Fourth be with you, fellow rebel scum.

Look this crumb, y’all 🤩 And it’s the most delicious sandwich bread so far. Shout out to Sally’s Baking for this perfect recipe. I used old fashioned oats for this loaf.

Behold! I hath made multigrain bread.! 🍞 Steam in the oven made sure it didn’t rip on the side and I’m crying because it’s so pretty. The tears might also be because every day is a new horror and also because it’s the end of the semester. Complex tears. But also LOOK AT MY BREAD.

Annoyed writer rant: Why does MS Word default to one kind of spacing between paragraphs and another within the paragraph? UGH. DON'T ADD SPACE BETWEEN PARAGRAPHS OF THE SAME STYLE!!! How many times I gotta click that box since apparently hitting the "set as default" button doesn't matter?! /rant

Reading a recent book and came across a point I made in my more technical work on Gregory of Nyssa and Christology. Looked at the footnote and saw my article cited. You wonder sometimes if people ever read the really specific academic stuff. Turns out, sometimes they do! Warms the heart it does 😊

Reuters was refused entry so they flew a drone over a detention facility in Texas. Jesus only has words of judgment for those who don't welcome the stranger, feed the hungry, and care for the prisoner. But sure, sing more "worship" songs in the WH. That'll help. www.reuters.com/world/americ...

It’s that time in the semester where my desk collects mugs and my floor collects piles.

Been nervous about some writing projects (a conference paper, a short book). I've done most of the research for both. I realized I'd hit that moment when researching became a delay tactic so I just started to WRITE. 1100 words so far. When will I learn to just start writing?!

When I read early Christian texts, I colloquially summarize. Here's Gregory of Nyssa and his sister Macrina in De anima et res 4.1-5. They're fun because they get snarky: Greg: What and where is Hades? 1/4

Flowcharts don't tend to make me emotional but this one... Rage, frustration, sadness, embarrassment

From the official White House account. There's no bottom to this administration's disdain for the law and for human rights. Dehumanizing an already vulnerable person and then mocking someone visiting that prisoner during Holy Week is...a choice. To be clear - it's a vile and anti-Christ choice.

Never again is now. God help us.

"Remove justice, and what are kingdoms but gangs of criminals on a large scale?” - Augustine, City of God 4.4 The absolute disregard for due process. Christ have mercy. The speed at which we've abandoned all pretense of a discernible set of American ideals is stunning.

Check out my fabulous colleague Jeff García's work featured on @christianitytoday.com this morning. It's 8am and we're all chatting in our offices about execution methods in the early Roman Empire, you know, like you do. www.christianitytoday.com/2025/04/was-...

"This is the time to stare at despair and say, 'You will not have the last word!'" - Senator Booker SAY IT. AMEN.

Almost missed posting for #WomensHistoryMonth! I wrote (with Lynn Cohick) Christian Women in the Patristic World. The thesis: women contributed substantially to the development of theology and practice in early Christianity. Buy at your fave bookshop! www.bakerpublishinggroup.com/books/christ...

Using humans in cages as props or trophies (regardless of who they are or what they've done) is vile. Christians: This is anti-Christ. Full stop. There is no defense or rationalization.

This is a deeply unserious and dangerously incompetent administration. And yet they mock, endanger, and carelessly fire civil servants with expertise and experience.

If you don’t have a mini jar of this perfect coconut peanut butter to bring to work or wherever…. 15/10 recommend *yes, I’m reading one of my fave early Christian texts, the Life of Macrina, and it’s even better paired with a banana and this peanut butter.

Happy St Patrick’s Day! ☘️ It’s a good day to celebrate a guy who called out abusive and tyrannical leaders, worked to abolish slavery and the slave trade (having been enslaved himself), advocated for the poor, and rid an entire island of snakes (it’s a legend but let’s go with it).

Happy Pi Day!!!! Let's all celebrate by eating pie and resisting the fascist destruction of education in the US that promotes the common good! Otherwise no one will know pi is. Or what fascism is. Or the common good.

From St Patrick’s Letter to the Soldiers of Coroticus. Patrick offers no quarter for greedy Christians who are “blood-stained” with the innocent (the enslaved Irish). Unjust riches turn to vomit and the angel of death will drag away the greedy to be “crushed by the anger of dragons.” ☘️ 🔥
