My 2yo's current favorite "bit" is a call and response to a Ms. Rachel song. I sing, "Can you say mama, mama, can you say mama's name?" and with a diabolical glint in his eye, he shouts "dada!" Happy Mother's Day to all who celebrate and are being celebrated. 🥳

I wrote a poem. www.the-pom.com/p/on-mothers...

I hate, loathe, detest and abominate all Boy Mom paraphernalia but I will take up goblincore without a second thought

Thinking about what I've inherited from my mom, and her mom, and her mom, and her mom's mom, tonight. open.substack.com/pub/amycolle...

Ben's 2nd birthday playground party was a success, if for no other reason than that the man of the hour got to absolutely drench himself in muddy puddles 🥰

Re: Mother's Day, I think for a lot of us, the best-case scenario isn't just "a whole day off" (though we'll certainly take that), but rather a chance to be with the kids but not responsible for ANYTHING. Bonus points if we can move freely in and out of the togetherness throughout the day.

"We are very good at rejoicing with those who rejoice, welcoming babies and children into families and communities. We aren’t as good at mourning with those who mourn, especially if that mourning is unspoken, invisible or complex."

I used my AAP prize money and bought a Kobo! Thanks for the recommendations, everyone. 🥰 I'm excited!

My four-year-old eats only meatballs and sauce My two-year-old eats only spaghetti and parmesan And so betwixt them both, you see, everyone has something to whine about at dinner

Made the mistake of leaving out a grocery bag containing brightly packaged cupcake liners only for them to be discovered by my almost-2yo, who tore open the package expecting to find his birthday cupcakes and refused to believe me when I attempted to explain I have not baked the cupcakes yet

Do any if you have a rec for a very basic e-reader that ideally does little more than store digital books and doesn't further pad Bezos' pockets?

Every time Lucy writes anything I'm on it like the Duke of Weselton trying to steal Arendelle Anyway, go read 🙏

Much of what I tell my kids every day sounds like cryptic, metaphorical life advice. "It's easier to keep pedaling forward than to stop and start." "Your teeth won't get clean by holding the toothbrush in your mouth." "Yes, you have to GET naked to get dressed but you don't have to STAY naked."

RIP Henry James you would have loved the story of an American from the Midwest who enters a world of European intrigue

"You said autistic children are a burden. That they ruin families. That they’ll never pay taxes or write poems. That they are, in essence, collateral damage. I’d like to introduce you to my daughter."

In today's post, I'm sharing the really simple old-school parenting advice that helped me relax and enjoy the playground. www.the-pom.com/p/stop-the-h...

Do they have translators at the conclave or have they just been sitting around for the past two days arguing in Latin

My DEAR! MISTAH Bennet! WONDERFUL news! WOKE MARXIST POPE is here at last!

Everyone loves to tell new parents "you'll miss these days." Today for @mcsweeneys.net I talk this over with Marty McFly's mom and decide if, given a DeLorean, I'd go back in time to relive my kids' baby years. www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/a-l...

A Chicago Pope implies the existence of an MLA Pope and APA Pope

to the tune of pink pony club:

4yo just now, to his swiftly melting snack: "Hey! Wise up, popsicle! Wise up!"

I can't believe we have a Pope from Illinois. People from Chicago usually hate the Cardinals.

Pizaballa can still be pope if Mike Pence has the courage

The reason they're taking so long to announce the new pope is because they have to do the makeover montage in between the white smoke and appearing on the balcony

I've loved all of @kristenmulrooney.bsky.social's Letters to Moms but this might be the best one yet. I cried. A Letter to Back to the Future's Lorraine Baines-McFly www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/a-l...

Dewey Defeats Truman As New Pope

This is such an important thread by @shanders.bsky.social! I'm often blind to the privilege my kids enjoy in public simply because they are white (and, to some degree, the fact that they are small for their age and people assume they are younger). So many moms are doing so much invisible labor.

I have been every iteration of this parent from sitting and watching to hovering - I really enjoyed reading Sarah’s thoughts on her own evolution as a mom, how we mellow over time, and how kids gain independence. I love reading things where I feel seen and challenged at once.

The piece @sarahradz.bsky.social wrote for The Pom today resonated with me so deeply; not so much because I am the naturally-hovering parent but because I'm often the parent worrying what others think. Have to remind myself to be the rock my kids can swim away from. ❤️ www.the-pom.com/p/stop-the-h...
