Thanks to Hazel & Violet Letterpress. πŸ’™πŸ“š

One of my favorite museums is the National Music Museum in Vermillion, South Dakota. It is on the campus of the University of South Dakota. This elaborately painted Swiss pipe organ made in 1786 is just one of the treasures on display.

The South Dakota House missed on this one, but it was close. South Dakotans, please contact your senators!

This is one of my favorite pictures from our 11 years (thus far) of fostering. Dori - black and white - is 13 and ours. Janis was a 10-year-old deaf pitbull that we fostered for close to six months. I took this after Janis went for a fun walk, but our Dori refused to leave the yard. #DogsofBluesky

South Dakotans, please contact your legislators! I've already heard back from one of mine, and he assured me he is a no vote.

Orbital by Samantha Harvey is my next read. It’s a shorter volume, but that fits perfectly with trying to ease back into reading and focus on a little self care. πŸ’™πŸ“š

Another reason for teaching history

Great idea!

This is Dori before I told her she was a good girl. This is also Dori after I told her she was a good girl. Dori is 13 and has helped our family foster hundreds of other pups. She is so sure of her own worth that she doesn’t need my daily affirmations. #DogsofBlueSky

My dad was a helicopter pilot with the Outlaws Company during the Vietnam War. When I was growing up, he would come home and turn on the radio to listen to Rush Limbaugh. Today he is the fiercest opponent of Trump and MAGA there is. Thank you for your service then and now, Dad.

Gosh darn it, South Dakota. I am darn right proud of you right now - something I never thought I'd say. Thank you for shutting down legislation that would have required school officials to notify parents when a student discussed gender issues with a school counselor or other school employee.

My reading for pleasure time has really dropped since the inauguration. I can't seem to focus. So I thought I'd try a book of short stories by an author I enjoy. It's actually helped a bit, and the stories are fairy clever and entertaining. πŸ’™πŸ“š

"In addition to taking food assistance and health coverage away from people who need it, the budget plan could result in enormous cost shifts to state, local, territorial, and tribal governments, which are already facing tougher fiscal conditions than in recent years."

Editorial cartoon by Marty Two Bulls.

This would be another win for South Dakota now that Kristi Noem is gone. During the Noem administration, reporters at the newspaper I work for had to wait weeks to get responses from officials for even positive stories involving government affairs.

I work for a newspaper and always have a physical copy of the most recent issue sitting around at home. My daughter sits down every afternoon and reads the paper. I love that. Dailies don't exist anymore for breaking news. They carry on to record the heart and soul of their community.

It’s been a very dry winter in South Dakota. Last night we finally received a couple inches of snow. I love the pale light of a winter sunrise. This is the Missouri River just a few blocks from my home.

Thank you, South Dakota legislators, for rejecting this bill to require the Ten Commandments be displayed and taught in public schools. Sorry we unleashed Kristi Noem into the world, but it has helped the South Dakota state government focus and make some good decisions at home without her here.

My morning routine consists of giving my senior rescue pup her meds and kibble, filling up my mug from Jennifer Vallez Illustration with coffee, and rage calling my South Dakota congressional delegation. It gets easier every day.

If anyone knows who to credit for this, drop a comment!

While no decision has been made about cutting the South Dakota Public Broadcasting budget, I want to applaud all of the South Dakotans who are showing up in person, online and by phone to make their voices heard that SDPB funding should stay in place.
