GenBioPro, the manufacturer of generic mifepristone, filed a motion to intervene in the medication abortion case that SCOTUS remanded last summer. The motion triggers the first major abortion case under the Trump admin.

NEWS: In USDA, multiple people have been asked to report the names of LGBTQ employee resource group leaders to higher-ranking officials, according to interviews with workers and a document reviewed by Mother Jones. + similar in the Department of the Interior

Happy birthday, @democracynow.org! Proud to have been there for four of those 29 years.

“The rolling protests everywhere may turn out to be more sustainable than the mass one-day turnouts by which many judge the strength of a movement.”

NEW: Anti-abortion groups want to enforce a 150-year-old law to ban abortion pills, which would be deeply unpopular. Now they're trying to rebrand the Comstock Act as an anti-drug trafficking statute, a move one expert compared to Nixon's manufactured War on Drugs. Me in @jezebeldotcom.bsky.social:

My parents (in their 70s) heeded the call to protest at town halls today. They were the only 2 people at their local town hall on a day when the wind was so bitter the real feel was 3 degrees. I’m proud of them. Every person who shows up matters.

Went to my local anti-coup protest today with the most Boston sign I could think of:

Our two papers on abortion bans and fertility/infant mortality are now out. In 14 states w/ abortion bans, fertility increased 1.7% and infant mortality increased 6%. Key takeaway is that these impacts were disproportionately felt among those w/ greatest structural disadvantages. Links below.

NEW: 93 Republican members of Congress ask the Supreme Court to let states kick Planned Parenthood out of Medicaid programs for providing services like birth control. Arguments are on April 2. www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/23...

BREAKING: we just blocked Musk & Trump out of the Treasury systems! Court order just secured — big win by us at @sddaction.bsky.social & our partners including @publiccitizen.bsky.social!

I’m always out here looking for the silver lining. Yes, on the one hand Elon Musk is leading an oligarchic takeover of the most essential branches of our federal government. On the other hand, JD Vance must be steaming right now.

🚨 NY AG Letitia James warns hospitals that denying gender-affirming care to minors violates state law—regardless of Trump’s order restricting federal funds. NY’s anti-discrimination protections still stand. Read more: apnews.com/article/new-...

It's so striking to me how much of the Trump/Musk agenda is recycled conservative goals in a new more oligarchic form. Exhibit A: Jesse Helms wanted to abolish USAID in the 1970s. When he couldn't, he banned USAID funding of abortion, a policy that endures today: www.politico.com/news/magazin...

Don’t let them make you feel like no one is organizing:

A friend in the neighborhood just sent me a picture from in front of Schumer’s building. (I’d join them if I didn’t have a soup to attend to right now!!)

An urgent message from the nation's health journalists:

BREAKING NEWS: Research and basic information on subjects ranging from tuberculosis surveillance to adolescent health disappeared from federal health agency websites.

A Louisiana court has indicted a NY doctor for prescribing abortion pills via telemedicine. Experts are skeptical they can enforce a judgment even if they get a conviction, but it could still create a chilling effect for other doctors in blue states. www.politico.com/news/2025/01...

NEW: The CDC appears to have removed its prescribing guidelines for PReP, STIs, and birth control. The former links now lead to a “page not found” message.

"Medicaid is too expensive for patients" has got to be the most exquisite example of gaslighting I've ever seen. Just perfect. No notes.

Abortion flipping is in fact a defining aspect of US politics...George H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Trump himself...all flipped to reach for the presidency. RFK is in fact a stark example of a common phenomenon: Politicians using abortion to obtain or keep power

If confirmed as HHS Secretary, RFK Jr. would have “the most opportunities to enact anti-abortion policies,” one expert told me. Read my deep dive on how he and other Trump nominees could gut abortion rights across government for @motherjones.com: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

People are organizing locally and it matters, folks:

Medicaid provides health insurance to 1 in 5 Americans. 40% if births are covered by Medicaid. It funds most of the long term care provided by nursing homes and in communities for the disabled and elderly. States administer the program, but 70% of funding is federal. This is catastrophic.

Trump just fired NLRB Member Gwynne Wilcox. The NLRB now lacks a quorum & can't decide cases. This violates the NLRA, which says Board members can be removed “upon notice and hearing, for neglect of duty or malfeasance in office, but for no other cause.” news.bloomberglaw.com/daily-labor-...

Definitely felt the house shake in Boston!

Huge thanks to @julialurie.bsky.social and @motherjones.com for this conversation about THE SUN WON’T COME OUT TOMORROW. I especially appreciate how Julia cuts to the heart of the book in the intro to the article! www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

BREAKING: Donald Trump has issued an executive order called "Enforcing the Hyde Amendment," revoking two of Joe Biden's post-Dobbs orders, which directed federal agencies to identify actions they could take to protect access to abortion.

Let's say... hypothetically...that you just learned that you and Pete Hegseth had chosen (almost) the same book title. Would you change the title or lean into it?

NEW: 30 major anti-abortion leaders on Wednesday wrote to the DOJ formally asking them to enforce the Comstock Act banning the mailing of abortion pills This appears to be the first step towards a threat legal scholars have been warning about: a de facto federal abortion ban aul.org/wp-content/u...
