Big announcement! We’ve just launched our Writers on Mondays podcast! Now you can listen to sessions from our famed lunchtime series of writer interviews and MA student readings. The first episode is up now with many more to come. modernlettuce.blog/2025/02/03/l...

seeing other poets write on the experience of having an eating disorder saddens me because i really wish eating disorders didn't exist at all, but they do & this writing is urgent. when i was unwell i needed this writing. ed support systems are disturbingly scarce. we need this poetry. lots of it.

And while I’m on the subject, here’s another beautiful upcoming collection by yet another beautiful poet @amymarguerite.bsky.social (no, this isn’t a thread, though maybe it should be)

heartbreakingly beautiful

Due tonight! I've just recovered from the Treaty one - which is the whole point, of coure. Listen to Jane Kelsey on RNZ on why there's mahi to do before midnight. Make a submission on the Regulatory Standards Bill. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

Amy's debut is top of my list of NZ books that I'm excited for this year 💌

over under fed is drunk in the shower......exploding sometimes......a beautiful sleepless nightmare......sitting at the hem of everything......leg hairs tremoring......a phoney ventricle......the hail mary after skipping a meal......no place for a moment really. pre-order via AUP (link in my bio).

you ever just sit in a chair and desire things

I have done my bit and submitted my opposition to the Treaty Principles Bill. This is a useful tool for building a submission: tukukorero.com #nz #nzpol

Me writing: every one of these observations is indispensable Me editing: omg shut UP

a few songs i've been loving this month. forgetting loads because i'm always accidentally discovering all the best songs while driving! such a nuisance & shame but also cool? like maybe i'll hear an unidentified song in a bar in like ten years or something & i'll do something lovely like cry.

“There is, let us confess it (and illness is the great confessional), a childish outspokenness in illness; things are said, truths blurted out, which the cautious respectability of health conceals.” ― Virginia Woolf, On Being Ill

Put the dead into your poems without garbing them in your grief. Give them cake, put on their favorite music. Listen to their gossip. Let them tell you how they've learned to bake bread. To carve clarinet reeds. Let them comb your hair. Help them remember the color orange. The scratch of wool.

when you have an ed it can be SO hard to find reasons to recover. i said maybe to help someone someday. i said maybe to write a book. next year my book will be out & i might have a job as an eating disorder recovery coach. recovery is the toughest thing ever but i promise it makes life SO beautiful.

"A guest to her visitingness" - I love this poem of Laura Newbern's: poems.com/poem/black-f...

lovely!

I love these lists of highlights, especially Amy Marguerite's list of poems and her welcoming of the startle. I too want to welcome the startle.
