Interesting, though would not advise a prescription to the Science Museum during half term.

Solidarity with @uniteucu.bsky.social on their third of twenty escalating days strike action, in their ongoing disputes with @ucu.org.uk over an unsafe and racist workplace as well as pay. Support our comrades fighting toxic management by signing the petition: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Yesterday a Sheffield gp surgery notified it’s trans patients that they would no longer provide them with hrt, regardless of their transition status. I have many friends who’ve been affected by this, including several post-op, putting their physical health at serious risk.

We are broken.

You know what I’d call for if I was prime minister - more funding of youth clubs , extracurricular activities, and mental health support - but showing a film looks like concern while costing very little

My favourite bit of Twitter has reached Bluesky. #BinBluesky (which doesn't quite work as well as #BinTwitter, but I'm not sure what else it could be.)

Solidarity with @uniteucu.bsky.social in their strike action. It's shameful that staff at a union have to take action to address an appalling workplace culture, the very things our union stands against in our employers. Strike fund for donations is at unite-ucu-strike-fund.raiselysite.com

Interesting to see what universities get fined record amounts for and what they don't. Trans inclusion policies are apparently many times more damaging than, for example, failing to resolve industrial disputes so graduations are delayed & students lose opportunities.

Solidarity with all striking workers. As #UCU Edu Committee Chair I'd chair Cradle to Grave (flagship education policy conference) on 29 March. It's sadly been cancelled by HQ citing @uniteucu.bsky.social strike in preceding days. The dispute must be resolved Please sign: tinyurl.com/UCUUniteSoli...

Five things you might not know about PIP and a thread. 1) PIP is not a ‘benefit’ of disability, it’s welfare support to cover the additional costs of living with chronic illness or disability - medicine, transport, therapy, specialist equipment (and no, not all of these are available on the NHS)

Join @newcastleucu.bsky.social, Brunel UCU & @ducuuo.bsky.social for an online meeting to spread the resistance to the job losses in Higher Education on Thurs 20th March at 12:30pm. More info and links to the meeting and to sign the open letter: ucu.lboro.ac.uk/spread-the-r...

I did finally get a response from my Labour MP. I can summarise it as "that's sad, sucks to be you".

Teeny tiny goldcrest flitting around the trees outside my office window this afternoon. The UK's smallest bird. 😍 Not my pic, too distant and too flitty. #TinyJoys

Something that we can all do to challenge Labour's welfare benefit cuts. If it helps you to take action, remember that we're all not currently disabled and are only one accident, infection or medical event away from needing support.

Politics is ultimately about choices: how you raise cash and where you spend it. Labour acts as if they are forced to cut disability benefits but leading economists say they can avoid it by taxing the super rich. Spending cuts are a political choice. Don’t let them pretend otherwise.

This review doesn't do this really excellent documentary about Thames Water justice. The real stars (if a doc has such things) are the workers who are honest about the lack of investment, the struggle to do a good job & their commitment to trying anyway. It gives them the voice that they deserve.

University of Bradford, in a city that’s home to the National Media Museum, formerly the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, proposes to shut its courses in film and television.

Solidarity with our Newcastle University members on strike today ✊ The 6th day of strike action this month fighting against hundreds of job cuts 💪 The whole union is behind you 🪧 Read more: www.ucu.org.uk/article/1391...

If you want to write to your Labour MP about disability benefit cuts but have limited spoons, here’s a template from @sensecharity.bsky.social you can use: t.co/E8QB6EDi9o Public backlash *does* work at times so let’s keep the pressure up. You too, non-disabled allies!

"The disabled are the only minority group that anybody can become a part of at any time. Having a stroke wasn’t on my radar – I was perfectly fit and healthy. The ambulance was supposed to get to me within 18 minutes, but it took them nearly an hour because of staff shortages." #DisabilitySky

UCU and other union branches interested in joining our digital rally, Wednesday noon is your chance to show Solidarity to all striking branches!

Please think of yourself as not currently disabled when considering how devastating these cuts will be to people who are. Write to your MP to remind them that these measures will not miraculously ensure that disabled people can work but they will ensure that disabled people are poverty stricken.

Busy @ducuuo.bsky.social picket lines again on the 11th day of strikes at Dundee university. Hearing from UCU president elect Maria Chondrogianni & @maggiechapman.bsky.social #SaveHE #StoptheCuts stopthecutspetition.org.uk

This train seat should not cost £128.

Yes! The economies of many towns and cities are absolutely reliant on their universities. Take that away and everything collapses.

If you're in the market for a treat, for yourself or someone else (or both, given the offer) then Longbarrow books are stunning, inside and out.

Strike 2 of this week in the current catastrophe that is higher education. Many more universities are balloting for action at the moment. If it's your local university, ask yourself how your local economy with weather multiple hundreds of job losses from a major employer.

Solidarity with our Brunel University members on strike today. Brilliant to see everyone out in force fighting against job cuts ✊ The whole union is behind you.

There is no student experience without staff (academic & professional services)

Around 50 new members joined @bcu-ucu.bsky.social over the last 2 weeks, with BCU staff invited to apply for resignation if they don’t share leadership vision of how HE should operate. @ucu.org.uk is growing. We would rather the circumstances were v different but together we are strong.

This is the first of many strikes in the Higher Education sector and if the major employer in your town or city is a University, your local economy is at risk. Academic and academic-related jobs are being threatened in huge numbers. Don't let it happen. Solidarity with @ducuuo.bsky.social

A few reasons to order books from Longbarrow Press: 1. First-rate poems 2. Scrupulously edited 3. Meticulously designed 4. Handsomely produced 5. Fastidiously packaged longbarrowpress.com/current-publ...

Better advertising to come, but I’m excited to announce that registration is now live for our very heavily subsidised Teaching Indigenous Histories & Perspectives Conference on 28 June! Bursaries for travel are available plus free follow-up support. Please do share with all your teacher networks!

Reminder that any pay 'rise' less than 3% is in fact a pay cut.

Solidarity with former colleagues and pals @sheffielducu.bsky.social Things started to go downhill as soon as the current VC arrived and I’m sorry it’s come to this.

The security guards at the V&A are on strike and are urging the public not to visit. I sent this email to let them know that I wanted to support their #LGBTQHistoryMonth tours but can't. Sharing here in case you'd like to send an email of your own:

Brilliant and important report from Dr Jennie Morgan and Dr Anna Woodham 👇 on emotions in museum work.

This. The thinking around hybrid working just hasn't been done in many cases. There's little consideration of how to build and sustain a work community in a world where hybrid should be a good thing. If your work environment doesn't take this into account, there's no incentive to go in.
