If you think a just-fertilized ovary is entitled to life but are indifferent to what happens to a kidnapped 4-year-old with cancer, sent to a dangerous country without meds, you don’t give a fuck about the lives of children. You are just in a cult that fetishizes being against abortions.

A headline from Hell. @nytimes.com www.nytimes.com/live/2025/04...

The final honor guard for Pope Francis included migrants, prisoners, transgender people, the homeless and others selected by the Vicariate of Rome as a symbol of the late pope’s mission of inclusion and outreach. Read more from the funeral: wapo.st/3YdDGqM

Care about marginalized people at least as much as you do inanimate objects challenge. Difficulty level: impossible.

"Autism doesn't excuse you from bad behavior" No one's saying it does. The problem is that people seem to think 95% of autistic behavior is bad even when it's not. We can't do anything without being criticized. All we're asking is that you stop vilifying us for existing. 😫

If you have a deep scar, that is a door, if you have an old, old story, that is a door. If you love the sky and the water so much you almost cannot bear it, that is a door. If you yearn for a deeper life, a full life, a sane life, that is a door.~Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Women who Run with the Wolves

Sitting with the data that -- Black people are 3.23x as likely as white people to be killed during a police encounter Black women are 3x more likely to die of a pregnancy or postpartum-related cause than white women. Tripled violence, tripled harms.

This so directly out of the Nazi playbook. The very obvious plan is to get rid of the independent accreditors and put all universities under jurisdiction of the federal government. This is how Hitler took over German academia and made it a wing of his party.

Something I learned from interviewing survivors of abuse and institutional betrayal is that by being willing to identify a problem, you are often treated as the problem. The institution will try to get rid of you instead of the problem. To me, this also speaks to the way the left is treated broadly

Toxicologist here! This will improve the health of zero Americans. Current synthetic food dyes are not causing health problems, and are often times used because they are actually safer than natural food dyes. Reminder that guns are the #1 cause of death of children but we are going to ban food dyes.

One of the most shocking things I have read for a while: t.co/lg46ijHLDF

This AERA I'll be meeting beloved colleagues and students in the flesh for the first time, and I am over the moon about it. Sure, hearing and presenting research will be nice and all, but I simply cannot wait for the connections with folks I've only, or mostly, known via Zoom.

FWIW, we've been studying the nationalist pronatalism push for several years now. And it's powerfully driven by what you'd expect: patriarchal gender ideology, perceptions that Whites & Christians are under threat, & Christian nationalism. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

It's funny how when you ask them why they think Pope Francis was "too woke" and request specific examples, they always wound up describing Christ's teachings without a hint of self-awareness.

THIS ISN'T EVEN AN EXAGGERATION

Evergreen meme. Yet another basic income pilot has shown increased full-time employment. It takes money to make money. It is particularly true for those with the lowest incomes that their income is so low that it's difficult to earn more. It's not like SNAP can buy a car to get/hold a job. UBI can.

Told my kid I needed to find additional ways to process my rage that don't include distraction/bypassing (e.g. working a lot). He suggested talking to someone of a like mind. Be still my heart.

My youngest (11yo) wants a permed mullet, and just the though of this might get me through the week.

Also, so much food waste happens before the food even gets to the consumer. Reducing food waste requires systemic changes to the food system, not just telling people to be more careful.

LEADERSHIP LOOKS LIKE SO MANY THINGS, FRIENDS This is one of them. Find the thing that YOU DO that the world needs right now and DO IT REALLY BIG (more ideas on how to find your way in in the next skeet if you're still ISO) (But just FIND YOUR ROLE NOW)

You’re telling me Prince and Pope Francis both died on April 21?

People experiencing pregnancy loss in states with abortion bans told us they wished they had known what to expect and how to advocate for themselves. We created this guide for anyone who finds themselves in the same position. (Published Dec. 2024)

"Kennedy’s disgust with and devaluation of autistic people fits neatly into a eugenic logic that views health as virtue, and sees illness, or difference, as a kind of moral lapse which should be subject to punishment or censure."

It's strange to me that the MSM still prints this administration's statements without a caveat: "they are probably lying."

💯

Shutting down Head Start might seem at odds with the administration's pronatalist aims. But they're actually closely aligned. Because moms who can't find/afford childcare often end up leaving the workforce. And once they're home full-time, it often seems reasonable to have more kids.

Pope Francis’s "Urbi et Orbi" Easter speech: “How much contempt is stirred up at times towards the vulnerable, the marginalized and migrants...I appeal to all those in positions of political responsibility in our world not to yield to the logic of fear which only leads to isolation from others.”

Just learned that my kid has me listed as “Spawn Point” in his contacts 😂

In the Comic Timing dep't, feline division... (via @cosmonautroger on Tumblr)

The thing I will never ever get is feminists who won't see that the LIBERATION OF EVERY PERSON OF EVERY GENDER FOSTERS THE LIBERATION OF--every person of every gender & patriarchy's grip besides human rights and basic fucking empathy it's self-interest 101...? (I know, I know...white supremacy)

Is there any academic field that has *not* experienced this? The epic battles in special education over the years re: science!

Someone please ask me to review this.

Literally abuser mentality. “If I don’t have ultimate power, that means you have ultimate power.” Binary thinking = Authoritarianism

"Paradise consists of reality looked at from a different consciousness. This seems a let-down at first. It does not come when you have earned it, but when you can stand it." ~Robert A. Johnson, 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘜𝘯𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦

It can’t get any clearer how the collective shadow works. When a people’s story of their god (and themselves) is only goodness and not wholeness, the vindictive, violent, “bad” nature grows in the shadows, takes control, and even becomes idolized.

The Target thing is so funny. They had hooked pretty much every Black person I know, and then they threw it all away to make the confederate flag crowd happy just so they could not shop there too.

This year’s Easter is especially difficult. I celebrated it in two subversively sacred ways: 1. I told my doc students to love the most forbidden, oppressed part of themselves and the controller oppressor part of themselves. The former wants to be free. The latter wants to be loved. And

Black folks disproportionately cool. Again, I don't make the rules.

Trans people are disproportionately "cool." I don't make the rules.

Yes. Read Michael Oliver.

Not surprising that an administration that rose to power on the spread of bullshit and propaganda is terminating the funding of researchers studying these phenomena. We are just receiving word about funding cancellations re: existing grants to members of our team and our colleagues.

Abusers will happily contradict themselves as long as it achieves their goal of making their victim look imperfect. Because they know that as long as observers find fault with the victim, even if they also find fault with the perpetrator, then it will obstruct justice for their victim.

I’m just gonna rewrite this one: “on the one hand, he’s a Maryland dad, and on the other hand, he was thrown in a gulag without due process because he’s brown.”

Look, I'm as post-structuralist as the next guy, but authoritarianism *thrives* in the "but there is no objective truth" shadows.

Stating facts plainly is considered bias when your norms require presenting two sides (one true, one false) as equivalent.
