We really got pop outside in the god damn cold in 2025 We are an embarrassing country

I truly think people don’t realize how many universities and colleges — especially public ones — may shut down if restrictions on and withholding of federal funding persists for even one presidency We are facing the demolition of American higher education

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” A classic quote from Malcolm X, who was assassinated 60 years ago today.

the emotional logic of fascism

Eleven People Have Died at this South King County Jail in the Last Two Years. Their Families Are Demanding Answers. New today from @andyengelson.bsky.social: publicola.com/2025/02/21/e...

“But people will eventually accept it, even if it’s unpopular” is a comment I saw so many times this morning. That’s what we call a self-fulfilling prophecy. This is your moment. Galvanize and organize people who are unhappy. Don’t make them feel helpless to stop it by saying no one will stop it.

On this list: Spokane Not on this list: Seattle

NEW: Elon Musk and SpaceX have taken control of part of Texas. In the town of Brownsville, one of the poorest communities in America, Musk sold hope. Instead, SpaceX caused earthquakes, workplace injuries, and displacement. And now they've built a company town too. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cZE...

Anyone else been hearing a lot about "We just need better messaging!" "We just need a left Joe Rogan!" lately? About that. There's one reason the right has more social media than the left, with bigger audiences. Right-wingers pay their creators. End of list.

1/ It took We 💚 Seattle not even 2 months to begin cheering on the terrorizing of immigrant communities by #ICE under the new admin. These people should not have access to vulnerable communities or the sensitive personal & health info of folks within them.

CISA is down 167 employees so far (I understand more to go) and reportedly NIST is about to be set on fire. NIST operate National Vulnerability Database and lots of other things. https://www.wired.com/story/the-national-institute-of-standards-and-technology-braces-for-mass-firings/

Approximately 500 NIST staffers, including at least three lab directors, are expected to lose their jobs at the safety-standards agency as part of the ongoing DOGE purge, sources tell WIRED.

We did it.🙌🙌🙌

This is incredibly smart by @ryanhatesthis.bsky.social, a lesson Democrats have to learn fast. There will be no a-ha moment for the electorate. You can't wait around for people to realize how bad it is if they'll invariably wind up blaming the Reverse Vampires. You just have to fight, right now.

This is a concentration camp. They are describing a concentration camp.

Rob Saka seems to think we would be better off if we hit our kids, and that public policy should take cues off of this. @acluwa.bsky.social

73% of residents: 'yes, please fund social housing' 63 of voters: 'yes, please use a *new* progressive revenue tax on the wealthy to fund social housing'

We should be excited about zoning for universal accessibility. It' good for safety, the environment, business, and affordability, so why are we still catering to the people who continue to benefit from exclusionary zoning?

with voters *overwhelmingly* backing funding for social housing it's a good time to ask 1. why did the mayor have all references to social housing removed from the comp plan? 2. why is social housing illegal in 80% of city's land area in the mayor's comp plan?

I also resent the desire for upper middle class and middle class white people to constantly port their own liberal racism and enabling of right wing fascism to poor white people Why come they never think about truly building and organizing with the white folks that DIDN'T go with the racism

As a political scientist who studies countries that managed to stop the slide into authoritarianism, I can assure you that ***refraining from provoking the authoritarian*** is not how it works. Without further ado, I will now go tear out another chunk of hair.

learn about the Black Panther Party free breakfast program learn about the Zapatista uprising learn about Jane learn about the Kensington Welfare Rights Union learn about STAR learn about Act Up learn about the Battle of Blair Mountain learn about the Spanish Civil War we are not the first

most journalists today can be divided into two groups: dedicated, impoverished people who mostly write for publications you've never heard of that started eighteen months ago or JP Random House The First, who writes columns for the New York Times about which ethnic groups it should be OK to hunt

The Democratic party is laying low because they believe backlash to Trump is inevitable and they're going to win midterms and 2028 no problem. I promise you this is what they believe. And they are so wrong. 1/2

Residents in some of Seattle's most expensive and amenity-rich neighborhoods, including Madison Park, Mount Baker, and Hawthorne Hills, have appealed the environmental review of Mayor Bruce Harell's plan to add more housing capacity. www.theurbanist.org/2025/02/14/r...

Only saying once on bsky b/c I know it is not entirely useful, but it is totally exhausting that in 2016 some of us said “they’re Nazis,” some of us screamed “they’re segregationists,” and a whole lot of very serious people now posting about them being Nazis and segregationists gaslight us for years

Reminder: Black history offers many examples of fighting authoritarianism, so one doesn't always have to look to Europe. Nazi lawyers looked to Jim Crow for inspiration for their racist laws. Read as much about struggles against Jim Crow as you do about other examples of resisting authoritarianism

What we are all experiencing is called "resilience targeting." It is a deliberate attack favored by many of todays shitlords, and is a fairly well known theory in disinfo and climate circles; it's just that everyone seems to be in denial that it's an attack. Today might be a good day to read up

Today, along with 2,000 other NIH employees, I had to clear out my office 😭 It was truly the honor of my life to work with such incredibly passionate people focused on improving human health. I’ve never experienced a more positive culture where *everyone* cared about their job and serving others.

Many, many amazing people lost their jobs today. Plz look out for them and help them land on their feet. Those of us left behind have a hard road ahead to keep up the important work with even fewer hands. But we’re not giving up and we’re gonna be here until they forcibly drag us out

This cowardice cannot be forgotten nor forgiven.

Do you remember that time Pence tried to see Hamilton and the cast called him out. Or when McConnell was chased out of a resraurant and not allowed a peaceful meal. Or when Cruz abandoned Texas during the deep freeze and we shamed him into going home. That. Do that.

This should be exceedingly obvious, but when Stonewall stays up while references to trans people come down, they will measure the silence of cisgender people as concurrence for whatever they plan next, and it still won't protect you in the end. So please get loud. Our mutual survival depends on it.

What’s that?? A 20 point victory for funding actual social housing through a tax on the wealthiest businesses??
