Optimal learning thrives under just enough stress—too little, and growth stagnates; too much, and it overwhelms. For me, growing up in a cowboy - ish small-town environment, where social options were limited, wasn’t easy, but equipped me for 'boys club' dynamics as a woman surgeon later on. 1/2

For 2025 I want peace on Earth, and I don't mean it in the cheery beauty pageant-y way. Peace is much harder than war. I want people with power to act with maturity not anger. As we gain expertise, the cognitive bandwidth required for surgery decreases. However, if a procedure demands 100% of your capacity to the point where you can’t communicate, that’s a risky place to be.
