Once more, if you're going to defeat fascism, you cannot pretend the foe you face is inflation.

The anti-trans grift is like the whole MAGA endeavor: giving the mediocre a way to claim the world owes them domination with a trophy to boot.

If you're going to bring down fascism you can't pretend the problem you're confronting is inflation.

“If thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought,” - George Orwell The words we use matter. So let's say what's actually happening. New from @anatosaurus.bsky.social

Strange bedfellows indeed. May these unrelenting horrors be the spark for the revolution MAGA claims occurred and needs to be quelled.

I talked with @anatosaurus.bsky.social about why it’s both morally and strategically important to call a spade a spade when we’re facing a hostile takeover of our government by a fascist regime. www.weekendreading.net/p/fascism-an...

As Dobbs was to views on abortion, so are these abductions to views on immigrants. The idea that either of these issues are not "popular" and therefore we ought not take them up is based on total misunderstanding of how opinion is shaped and that the job of campaigning and messaging is to shape it.

Proud to have my first piece in the Contrarian! On Fascism and the English Language.

Never, ever let anyone tell you Americans only care about their economic self interest and therefore we must frame everything through that lens alone. That merely aids and abets fascism. People care about the things they hear repeated over and again.

Fascism and the English Language: As the MAGA regime’s ongoing assault on our lives and our loved ones ramps up, many of us feel tongue-tied - at a loss for the words to express what is happening, let alone marshal resistance to it.

As George Orwell said, “If thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.” Join me today at 1pm for a Substack Live with @anatosaurus.bsky.social and Stasha Rhodes for a conversation about Fascism and the English Language. www.weekendreading.net

Newsflash - Americans had zero clue what MAGA Dictatorship actually intends on immigration. As some of us said all of 2024, our task was to forge the "credulity chasm:" to ensure voters knew exactly what was coming & believed it would happen not to enable it with "we hate immigrants too."

The majority of Nazi concentration camps were built and operated outside of Germany.

For years, climate change folks loved to cite "97 out of 100 scientists agree" stat. When we would test that - eons ago - in focus groups the standard response was "huh, so there's still debate." Basically, that was platforming the industry-paid 3%.

There are many words inappropriate to the task of describing what is going on right now. High up on that list are "deportations" for abductions, "Constitutional crisis" for MAGA dictatorship, "violation of norms/checks and balances" for fascism. Our refusal to even say what is empowers it.

This is the center-left strategy worldwide. Attempt to beat your opposition by parroting and therefore crediting your opposition's claims. It's a proven failure morally and electorally: bsky.app/profile/anat...

...And in a cabinet meeting.

It requires considerably more fuck you to fight fascism than to make believe the only problem here are egg prices.

Authoritarianism relies upon, celebrates and rewards mendacity and mediocrity.

I know you aren't going to want to hear this but the reason the system can deport Mahmoud Khalil and send Kilmar Abrego Garcia to El Salvador is that for years we've been executing factually innocent people like Marcellus Williams and sending legally innocent people to places like Riker's Island.

Once more for those wondering whether crediting MAGA's claims on xenophobia (aka immigration and border) helps Dems out electorally or how it is that abduct people and torture them in foreign prisons is met with meh.

Now we have no choice but to accept what we have long known: We cannot vote our way to a democracy. The only way forward is for us to take direct action.

MAGA is a death cult, franchising internationally.

Those of us yelling that the key to 2024 was making potential voters understand precisely what MAGA rule would entail were called "hyperbolic" and told way forward was shoring up Dem bonafides - a task only showing, not telling, can achieve. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

And still, no response from Democrats, media, Hollywood, legal community, commensurate to this televised announcement MAGA Dictatorship in effect.
