🌿 May the force of nature be with you 🌿 Let's protect our planet's biodiversity—our true force. 🌍💫🧪 #MayThe4thBeWithYou

Pretty big news out of North Texas, an epicenter for far-right schoolboard takeovers: Yesterday, the GOP in Tarrant County - a bellwether for the state - went 0-11 in the three largest towns; and seven school board candidates backed by the Christian nationalist Patriot Mobile PAC also lost.

"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

DJT is winning elections for liberal anti-DJT candidates around the world. He ran on hate. Others are too. Hatred of him.

Scientists who study climate don't automatically attribute all changes to human activity. Rather, we carefully investigate every possible natural factor that could explain the planet's warming. Could these be the real culprits? The evidence is in--and the answer is NO. This thread explains! 🧵

"You can’t be energy 'dominant' if you gut the energy sources that are projected to add 80% to 90% of new gigawatts to the U.S. grid between now and 2030." — Jennifer Granholm

More than 130,000 government pages have gone dark in a purge that one scientist likened to a “digital book burning.” A group of librarians and archivists is fighting back.

Gulf of America is a big joke too

Despite the rise in conspiracy theories in recent years, I don't think any of us are prepared for how they will flourish once Trump degrades or destroys all the official knowledge- and data-producing agencies in the US government.

Pretty sure Trump did not run on a promise of lower living standards

I have a new essay out in a collection by @rooseveltinstitute.org. If we want clean energy industrial strategy, we have to deliver for everybody. We need to approach decarbonization as the biggest megaproject in world history, & ensure it gets done on time. rooseveltinstitute.org/blog/buildin...

President Trump charged into office at the peak of his powers — more popular, more disciplined, more ambitious than ever before. But after months of mega-MAGA shock and awe, the illusion of invincibility is fading.

“Improvements since 2007 reduced costs by 19%, averaging $5 billion per hurricane. This exceeds the annual budget for all federal weather forecasting.” As a field, we have come such a long way, and there’s still a long way to go. THE WORK WE DO TO SAVE LIVES AND PROPERTY MATTERS! Full stop.

I want politics to be about a better everyday life. Here's what that can look like:

“I’m not vouching for the man, but for his constitutional rights.” —Senator Van Hollen

I filmed this yesterday on my way to Lousiana where my constituent Rümeysa Öztürk is being wrongfully held by ICE. I’m there now demanding her release. More to come.

Forgotten but crucial history: “The members of Congress who wrote and passed the Clean Air Act were well aware of carbon dioxide, and they understood that it was a pollutant.” – Naomi Oreskes, historian of science at Harvard

Agree with the DL Happy Earth Day y’all

Every day, countless National Park Service employees keep our parks pristine and ensure visitors have an enjoyable experience. This #NationalParkWeek, I'm grateful for these workers who tirelessly protect our public lands – and I will keep working hard in Congress to protect their jobs.

I join the world in mourning the loss of Pope Francis, the people’s Pope, who reminded us that no matter our faith, we are all caretakers of creation. His legacy of compassion, inclusion, stewardship, and justice will continue to be a roadmap for our world.

Big news: we just launched the Threatened Public Lands Tracker. It’s the most detailed interactive tool we’ve ever built showing exactly where our public lands are under threat, who’s behind it, and what’s being done. morethanjustparks.com/threatened-p... #nationalparks #publiclands

White House denies that the secretary of defense leaked Rose Garden Easter Egg locations to his family in Signal Chat.

Fifteen years after the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded off the Gulf Coast, killing 11 and sending 134 million gallons of crude gushing into the ocean, the effects of the nation’s worst offshore oil spill are still being felt.

Billions in landowner payments & local tax payments at risk with SB 715 including in the bill author's district. Also a Tx Association of Business study by Aurora Energy Research shows lower reliability, higher costs if renewables are restricted. That & more here: www.douglewin.com/p/why-do-so...

These images and stories from yesterday's mobilizations across the US are inspiring, but one thing that is visibly absent from Resistance2.0 so far is young people. Based on conversations with youth and campus organizers I know and data I've collected, here are some likely reasons (short 🧵)

Today, 250 years ago, the Battles of Lexington and Concord sparked a revolution. This weekend, we proudly celebrate our Commonwealth’s history and recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of protecting and expanding our democracy.

This is the 30th anniversary of the OKC Bombing. Please let me share a perspective on it. It starts with an Oklahoma geography lesson. 1/n

Boston: college visits yesterday; protest at the statehouse today

“Department of Government Efficiency.”

This is the way to American insignificance, not greatness

The "quiet part" here is that far too many journalists don't think a protest is newsworthy -- even when as many as 5 million people come out! -- unless there's violence. Millions of Americans following MLK's hallowed example of nonviolent protest doesn't cut it with them

The CDC eviscerated divisions that oversee a database on accidental deaths and injuries AND the team that maintains a tool for tracking sexually transmitted diseases. The EPA will stop requiring that industry measures greenhouse gas emissions. If you don't measure, it's not a problem, right?

I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.
