Although the number of people killed, 58, was 16% lower than 2023, our dysfunctional driving culture and the rampant dangers it leads to still makes getting around a risky proposition for far too many.

This cycleway is narrow so a sign reads "Racer te gast" meaning those on fast road bikes are guests and should be considerate to any slower cyclists

I don't understand, why is this not manslaughter? "57-year-old father-of-two Walker was cycling on the A3 Lisburn Road towards Moira, Co. Down, on 26 March 2020 when he was fatally struck from behind by McGeown" 😞

€67m allocated to greenways in Ireland as Minister O’Brien makes supportive statement on €360m yearly funding for active travel The funding is from the 2025 Budget set by the last government, so, not yet a clear indicator of how the new Government will fund active travel and greenways, but in a…

I had a positive and constructive meeting with @economy-ni.gov.uk Minister and @qubelfastofficial.bsky.social alumna, Dr @caoimhearchibald.bsky.social MLA today. Click on the images below to read my full statement.

Some serious investment going on www.gov.ie/en/press-rel...

“If you had to guess the leading cause of death for children and young people around the world, what would you say? Malaria perhaps? Pneumonia? Suicide? They’re all high up there, but no, it’s road accidents.”

Allegedly? Was the SUV driving itself?

1/4 While Europe races towards a green transport revolution, NI lags behind. 81% of Europeans use public transport daily, with 95% within a 15-minute walk of a stop. In NI, only 52% of households have hourly bus access. Just 5% of NI journeys were by public transport in 2017-2019.

Will this BBC Radio 4 sho be more informed than its provocative title? It’s 13:30 UT today, Sunday.

Shocking and deeply sad--'an SUV crushed him', it was the driver who killed him www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

HOT RESEARCH NEWS! Motonormativity ("car brain") is a bias that stops people making rational judgements about driving en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motonor... Our new study shows where this bias comes from AND how it makes people think they're odd for supporting changes to the transport system 🧵

Well there's been a few here too of late 👍 www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Great to hear people's priorities 😆 🍰

How ridiculous, so the answer to not being able to see the road ahead due to blinding oncoming headlights is to avert our gaze, brilliant 😕 search.app/MeeP

Please do read, share, and get involved. Donations and volunteers always welcome.

Great piece about @coachbalto.bsky.social and the bike bus movement, countering “the epidemic of dangerous and toxic car traffic” whilst having fun: “the best thing about the bike bus is that it’s simply a cool thing to do with friends.” www.theguardian.com/environment/...

🚆 Oh wow, a 50% increase in Belfast-Dublin train passengers after doubling the service—who could’ve guessed? 🙃 Maybe investing in reliable, frequent, and affordable public transport actually works? Shocking. 1/2

It looks like a bleak spot 😬 but this is great news for folks here 👍👇 www.infrastructure-ni.gov.uk/news/ministe...

Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years as a result of a deliberate strategy. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people. Good trade.

Proper job 👍👇

What’s the biggest benefit you’ve found from cycling? Fitter, happier, or just an excuse to explore? It’s low-impact, fun, and fits into your day. Every ride boosts strength, protects your joints, and clears your mind. 🔗 cyclinguk.org/cycling-health-benefits

Happening in Bangor, please spread the word 😍

Longer days are coming 🙂

"As a youth, I didn’t always fit in, and I struggled with my emotions. Cycling was my escape, my way of running from life and exploring the world." Great piece @bikepacking.com.web.brid.gy bikepacking.com/plog/new-zea...

This figure is for two years, and includes £30m for Bikeability, £30m for Sustrans, £8.5m for Cycling UK, Living Streets and Modeshift. Mark's estimate is that what remains will fund at most 155 km of new cycle infrastructure, which is 500m per English local authority. 500m. Hugely disappointing.

Claimed “post-Greens splurge” on roads actually set by last government, Department of Transport confirms The Green Party are out, and now more funding is already going to roads -- that's according to reports in the two most-read national daily newspapers and what has been reported on RTE, but it's…

Only 32% of motorists reconised ‘Rural Speed Limit Sign’ as having any connection with speed -- Politicians and the public question why standard 60km/h signs were not used. A survey conducted by an established polling company, Ipsos B&A, for the Road Safety Authority (RSA) found that the vast…

Hello Bluesky! We're Sustrans, the charity making it easier for everyone to walk, wheel and cycle. Custodians of the #NationalCycleNetwork 👣🚲 Happy to be here! 🙌

This is such a daming indictment of active travel policy over the last 20 years. Our current traffic congestion is a direct result of a failure to invest in public transportation and active travel in this time.

This is the map the Department of Infrastructure produced in 2021 for the delivery of cycle routes in Belfast. The lack of delivery is a scandal and we need accountability. @belfastcyclecam.bsky.social @sustrans.bsky.social
