Government employees: please download your performance reviews/personnel files. Word is that the system will be going offline tomorrow to possible amend those performance reviews for justification of firings. Source: American Federation of Govt Employees. *Please share to protect fed workers*

Indivisible's zoom tonight is maxed out. They are live-streaming on Youtube and recording the zoom. More than 40,000 people on the zoom. www.youtube.com/live/55yf3As...

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

I got an email from Target "celebrating" Black History Month & encouraging me to buy Black-owned brands there. I would like to purchase from Black-owned brands, just not from Target. It's gross that they will promote BHM when it is convenient & ditch DEI when it is inconvenient. #DoBetter #DEI #BHM

This!!!

Last night, Musk's staff were stopped trying to enter USAID's HQ. They threatened to call U.S. Marshals. @cnn.com: Sources say they wanted access to security systems and personnel files and to access classified information. Today, the USAID Director of Security and his deputy were put on leave.

My latest:

Happy Black History Month, and yeah, we're still doing that.

WELCOME TO BLACK HISTORY MONTH

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world. Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

Is he even human? Who says things like this? Who thinks them?

Careless, thoughtless, cruel, stupid.

Amazingly, I said these things BEFORE this week and the ICE raids, the trans EO, the funding freeze insanity, and so on. In other words, last week. www.publicnewsservice.org/2025-01-30/m...

Stop fucking saying he blamed “DEI,” which is some abstract, non-tangible idea. He is blaming people of color having jobs he thinks they aren’t qualified for. He’s blaming race. He’s being racist every time he says it. Journalists need to get fucking backbones, my word.

🤐

Funding Freeze memo rescinded. All this chaos and incompetence on full display again. I am sure they will try again to accomplish their "goals" but in the meantime, we have shown that pushing back against stupidity and ignorance and cruelty can make a difference. www.cfo.gov/assets/files...

if you're considering the "buy out" keep in mind the cash offer is illegal. so ....

I have read the email from OPM. It is not what has been reported. IT IS NOT A BUY OUT. It is an exemption from the partially unenforceable return to the office EO until end of the Fiscal Year. You may have to work every single workday until the end of the FY. No guarantees. All discretionary.

OMG. How can this be possible even?

Let me say this in no uncertain terms: the President’s actions today are illegal.   Cutting off people from healthcare, childcare, and other services is cruel. The State of Illinois will fight this unlawful order with everything we have.

ICOY is a proud member of Illinois Partners for Human Service--we have signed on in support of their statement condemning the freeze of federal funding to nonprofits in Illinois and across the country. Sign on in support of our petition to Congress to end the freeze here: bit.ly/supporthhsil

This has been an absolutely exhausting day, beginning last night with the grants freeze. The carelessness and ignorance behind this action are almost as bad as the cruelty, racism, and homophobia. No consideration at all for the impact on people's lives and livelihoods. It's only been one week.

“The Democrats didn’t do enough on Gaza, so I withheld my vote to make a statement.” “Well, Trump won and now he’s gonna destroy Gaza.” “Yep. We’re paying the price for the Democrats’ incompetence.” “‘We?’ The Gazans are paying the price, not us” Pause. “I needed to make a statement.”

Shameful. Hateful, racist, misogynistic white male supremacy. It cannot be more blatant. Who is going to call this out? We cannot expect our so-called Secretary of Defense to defend these veterans and their service.

The most common question I receive is how everyday citizens can help in the fight for democracy. My advice, take the first step, start with something small and see what works for you. Here are ten things all of us can do. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/10-t...

These are the good guys supporting DEI. Reward them with your business. Costco Meijer Kroger Giant Grocery Ben & Jerry’s Ulta, Macy’s Old Navy Nordstrom’s TJ Maxx GoTo Foods ( Moe’s Southwest Grill, Mcalister’s, Auntie Anne’s, Jamba, Cinnabon…) Dollar Tree Walgreens Wegmans

I am going to a funeral this morning. This poem will resonate with me for a long time.

Elon Musk's salute is a standard-issue far-right trolling tactic. I call it fascist peekaboo, and explain how it works here. But it's not working so well this time. I explain how progressives and the press are getting smarter on how to respond. www.salon.com/2025/01/22/e...
