When ppl defending AI explain all the intricate steps one has to take for it to be remotely useful, this pops in my head.

those ‘movies you’ve seen more than six times’ prompts always trip me up, I’ve probably watched like 200 movies 6+ times

Students who want to go to college should not not NOT take calculus in high school. They should take a year-long course called something like "What the fuck is a logarithm?" Sincerely, An Introductory College Chemistry Instructor

Animals are so stupid. If my shit started rolling around with a swiveling tank turret on top, I'd crush that thing immediately.

For next school year, I'm thinking of putting up a sign on my door that says what book I'm currently reading, that way students can either talk to me about the book if they've read it or learn about a book that they can read. It might also encourage students to give me suggestions on books to read.

I would like to teach a one-credit class that's just "A Survey of Different Arrows in Chemistry". Would it be particularly useful? No. Would it be interesting to anyone other than me? Maybe not. But I would really really like to talk about that topic a whole bunch.

It's rosy maple moth season in Virginia!! My favorite time of year! Can you believe we get to share a universe with this amazing species? It's like pink lemonade had a baby with a muppet.

I’m shaken by the number of parents who would, to all appearances, be extremely chill with eugenics measures that target their own children.

Sounds like the political influence of Big Erythrosine.

Worth noting that the spent fuel is all in the casks, bottom right. They are designed to handle fires. I don't know the full details on their specific casks, but it is highly unlikely that a brush fire would result in any kind of a release. Temperatures not high enough & doesn't last long enough.

Picture of fire approaching Oyster Creek. It's been shut down for a few years now, but there is still spent fuel on-site in the ISFSI. Fire has passed with no damage on site.

Tonight's stupid orgo jokes for the exam: "What kind of permit do alkenes need to drive on a toll road? E-Z pass What do you call a rabbit that'll knock you out? The Ether Bunny

The enchirito.

There used to be a really great Korean-Cajun restaurant in Sterling, VA, but I think it closed down around the time of the pandemic.

Me, an inorganic chemist: actually, it's 18 cuits.

Why, no, you shouldn't have to have your 'papers' on yourself at all times or face extraordinary rendition to a foreign country, actually

While looking for something else, I stumbled on this interesting back and forth from the early 1970s in C&E News. I read more letters to the editor and the general vibe is men in chemistry and the chemistry community were pretty scummy... #chemsky #womeninchemistry #womeninstem
