Lately, I’ve been struggling to complete a project. I’ve a handful of manuscripts that got abandoned for a variety of reasons. But in the midst of all this, I somehow managed to write a 20-ish page short story by hand yesterday. And now I’m back to being stuck again… #writingcommunity

Earlier today, I watched the 80s slasher film CURTAINS about an actress who enters an asylum in preparation for a film role but is abandoned by her director as he seeks to recast by having 6 young actresses audition at a remote mansion where a masked killer is on the loose. #horror #horrormovies

Currently watching THE WOLVERINE, one of the most underrated comic book films. Wolverine in Japan battling samurai while stripped of his healing powers has the makings of a great story. Also, the action scenes are incredible and hold up well. #marvel #wolverine #movies #comicbookmovies

Currently reading BABEL-19 by Samuel Delany about an artificial language created by invaders to influence people during a wartorn future. A short read, but a suspenseful sci-fi tale that’s as fast-paced as it is surprising. #books #BookSky💙📚 #BlackBookSky

Earlier tonight, I watched this film, The Girl in Black Stockings, about this party girl, Marsha Morgan, whose body is discovered dead on the property of this fancy resort. Needless to say, a dead woman really ruins people’s vacation vibes.

Just finished reading the anthology comic STORM: LIFEDREAM, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Ororo’s debut. She goes through her colorful past, revisiting the good & ugly moments to embrace the powerful woman she is now. A great read. #marvelcomics #BlackSky #comics #xmen

Today is the birthday of writer Bill Finger (Feb. 8, 1914-Jan. 18, 1974), who took Bob Kane’s initial idea & developed it into the Batman we know today. He also wrote the first appearance of the original Green Lantern, and cocreated Robin, the Joker, Catwoman, Lana Lang, Wildcat, Riddler, & more.

The other day, I saw the film BLACK GIRL an out this young African woman who gets hired to work for a French family as a nanny. She anticipates being accustomed to a wonderful new country.

Bertram Fitzgerald was an accountant who grew up an avid reader, & that included Classics Illustrated comics. In 1966, he launched Golden Legacy Illustrated History Magazine, a comic book focusing on important figures in Black history that published until 1976. #BlackHistoryMonth

Currently reading the Diary of Anne Frank. I bought this at a D.C. trip while at the Holocaust Memorial Museum but never got around to reading it…until now, due to certain recent events. An emotionally tough read, but now more than ever stories like this need to be amplified. #books #BookSky💙📚

Just finished the Doctor Doom/Rocket Raccoon one-shot. I loved their unlikely dynamic, especially the dialogue (from Doom beating Rocket at Monopoly to the implication that Doom has a crypto account). Also, it was an interesting time travel story as well. #marvelcomics #doctordoom #rocketraccoon

Just finished watching the film Saturday Night, which chronicles all the backstage drama that led up to the live premiere of the first episode of Saturday Night Live. The whole movie makes you feel like you’re right in the midst of the stress.

Just finished reading the novel A SPY IN THE STRUGGLE by Aya de Leon. It’s about FBI Special Agent Yolanda Vance on an undercover mission to infiltrate this Black “extremist” activist group that’s involved in dangerous activity…at least that’s we led to believe.

Currently watching the film Angel, about a teenage girl who’s a high school student by day, and a ho by night. She & her ho friends are in danger when a serial killer is on the streets targeting them one by one.

The other night, I saw the film 4D Man about this scientist who discovers this formula that helps him phase through objects but with a horrible side effect—rapid aging and a draining of his life force. So he must kill to replenish his energy. #classicmovies #scifi #scifimovies

Just finished reading Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk where Wolverine gets recruited by Nick Fury to take out Hulk. I love Leinil Yu’s art in this. It makes for some of the grittiest, brutal action scenes. The story itself works perfectly with that style. #marvelcomics #comics #wolverine #hulk

Today and in the coming days, remember

Look, the next few years are going to be hard. It’s going to be exhausting trying to keep up with all of the noise and distractions. So make sure to enjoy things. You cannot be all fight. You need joy as well. And do not let people make you feel guilty for finding moments of joy. That is bad.

Please buy books and read them. It will matter moving forward.

Earlier today, I saw the film where ONE OF THEM DAYS where Keke Palmer & SZA play two roommates who go through a crazy journey throughout L.A. to secure rent money. Though I’m usually not big into comedies, I was cracking up with the audience the whole time. #BlackSky #movies

We are about to enter an era of extreme and dangerous culture war in the United States. How do we protect our communities and work toward a cultural ceasefire? In this piece I wrote a couple months ago, I offer one possible path. wapo.st/40q1BDn

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, here’s a scene from that one time Black Panther & Storm went back in time and (sort of) met Martin Luther King Jr. & Malcolm X. #marvelcomics #comics #BlackSky #BlackPanther #Storm #MartinLutherKingJr

Decided to spend Martin Luther King Jr. Day watching the film Our Friend Martin. Nearly every Black person my age grew up watching this film in school. It’s these two teens who go throughout time visiting King over the years. Available online if you all want to see it. #BlackSky #MLK

One thing you can always count on: John Romita Jr. drawing a character in the rain… #comics #marvelcomics #dccomics

How many of you have read this? Ann Petry’s The Street is about a young Harlem woman who endured so much in order to make a better life for her & her son. But she ends up down a dark path that leads her to murder. #books #BookSky📚💙 #BlackBookSky

Just finished reading Ultimate Wolverine. I’ve been living the New Ultimate line and this first issue set the stage for a gritty, mysterious reinterpretation of the character. Looking forward to see this story unfold… #marvelcomics #comics #wolverine #ultimatewolverine

Sometimes you use a pen that turns out to write way better than you thought it would and oh man that’s the good stuff

I got into it with somebody at my local comic store earlier this week who, when the conversation shifted to the recent drama surrounding Neil Gaiman, defended Gaiman as “being unfairly criticized just because he’s into some weird, kinky stuff”. And I was like… #comics #NeilGaiman

I love this image from the new Sam Wilson, Captain America series where all the Black Marvel characters are at “the cookout”. And of course Luke Cage is at the grill… #marvelcomics #comics #BlackSky

Finished reading Rabbit Hunt by Wrath James White about a group of Black men on a wilderness trip to target, hunt, & eliminate bigots in the most gruesome ways. Though some of the kills were uncomfortably explicit to read, it’s an intense horror novel. #books #BlackBookSky #BookSky📚💙
