Look for UA in today's Eugene Weekly. There is an article on page five and this beauty!

Dr. Mitch is tapping in!!

UPDATE: Cops are continuing to be brought in to stop Starbucks workers and allies demanding the company settle fair contracts with workers. Now, those participating in actions in Chicago are being arrested and led away by police. Shame on Starbucks! NO CONTRACT, NO COFFEE! #ToBeAPartner

Labor peace is over - and its corporations' fault. SBWU is leading the way for workers.

Check out the new article: oregonpowerandpolicy.substack.com/p/whos-raisi...

Made a video bullying republicans in the Oregon Legislature for passing SCR 13 out of committee today, which would declare the T-bone steak the official state steak of Oregon. Unfortunately, the video is slightly too long for posting on Bluesky!

Socializing the praise, privatizing the criticism!

It's been exasperating to see lots of well-meaning people on here encouraging others to support Costco for its stance on DEI---all while the company is trampling its workers' right to organize in every possible way.

It would be great to see a bill like this in Oregon. I'll have to check if any of the 1,000+ that have been introduced so far are along these lines.

Huh, turns out you can't have private UNIDENTIFIED security assault and kidnap people because you don't like what they say at city hall Weird.

I read the NYT for a long time and accepted a resigned, cynical view of the world. Only when I started reading civil rights and labor authors like @kimkelly.bsky.social did I gain hope and practical knowledge about how we can change things. Maybe the NYT wants us hopeless(ly buying subscriptions).

With Trump cozying up to big business, we're going to see a wave of corporate mergers soon. Here are some ideas for how your state can fight back: oregonpowerandpolicy.substack.com/p/cartels-ca...

24-02-1941 NETHERLANDS: Amsterdam dockers strike when Nazis begin deporting Jews to death camps by ship. Strike spreads across the city. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Februar...

Even though I have a lot of critiques of elected office as a way for progressive change, this is true! Reminds me of the thesis of "A History of America in Ten Strikes" by @erikloomis.bsky.social. Unions win big when government supports them, and this holds for other causes and movements too.

Big corporations getting bigger is bad for a lot of reasons, and we have ways to fight back. Read what I wrote: oregonpowerandpolicy.substack.com/p/cartels-ca...

“We all voted it down, and I hope that sent a pretty clear message to Providence,” said Caroline Allison, a nurse at Providence Medford: labornotes.org/blogs/2025/0...

Connected?

Reading @willametteweek.bsky.social comments: User "Autistic Incel" is the voice of reason, fending off the formidable "Javier Sodo" (6k comments). Sodo & Co. attack teachers, students, parents, unions, the Legislature, and Willamette Week itself, arguing for larger class sizes and school choice. 🧵

The most metal intro to any of the new council committees I've heard thus far.

if you too want to know the joys of walking around in a circle, talking **** about your biggest opps, a picket line might be the place for you

What will Starbucks pay for? 🤔 ✅~$8 million Super Bowl commercial ✅$800k a day for CEO Brian Niccol ✅Private jet for their CEO to commute from CA to Seattle ✅Advertising on X & Meta ❌Barista raises that match inflation/cost of living ❌Staffing stores properly ❌Accessible healthcare for partners

Phone banking for @sbworkersunited.org right now to contact non-union stores. You can tell most baristas have been told to hang up/not answer questions. We've got 300 people calling, though, and we're getting leads to organize new stores. Starbucks is feeling the pressure.

For the 4 actual people that follow me: I wrote a thing! "To immediately give Oregon workers the security they deserve, we must abolish at-will employment." oregonpowerandpolicy.substack.com/p/free-trial...

This deal looks really good considering the absolute lack of respect Providence has shown for workers. Doctors at Saint Vincent are still on strike, though, and I hope their demands are met as well.

if I understand American politics correctly, progressivism is something that requires 60 senate votes to work, while national conservatism doesn’t require any votes at all

“I told you so” does not help. “Are you ready to do something about it?” does.

Health care workers at eight Oregon hospitals are still on strike since Jan. 10. They’re fighting for proper staffing, affordable health insurance, and competitive pay to attract and retain experienced staff, our organizer Kari Thompson reported: labornotes.org/2025/01/nurs...
