they’re doing that thing where a new coach discovers his NFL team has a ping-pong table in the locker room and orders it removed to build a winning culture focused on football and all the players resent it and he gets fired after 3 sub-.500 seasons, but for The Army

What the actual fuck

Some history of this plant: In 1987, an explosion killed 5 workers after 100,000 pounds of solid-rocket fuel had been placed inside an MX missile. In 1963, 3 people were killed due to a fire. And in 1967, 1 employee was killed by poisonous fumes: www.washingtonpost.com/archive/poli...

This missile is never getting done

The President talking about "groups of people to get out of the country" should send every serious person though the roof, never mind the exceptionality of targeting citizens. It's a concentration camp abroad. They're serious about taking your family members. It must be stopped immediately.

In general this is something Democrats have steadfastly refused to do over the years vis a vis foreign policy— a massive advantage afforded to Republicans is that a lot of the precedents they set on the world stage end up getting implicitly affirmed by the successive Dem as fait accompli

Rising sea levels and extreme weather events increasingly threaten the US submarine force's infrastructure. They could also disrupt nuclear missions, @alliemaloney.bsky.social of @scientistsorg.bsky.social writes. In @thebulletin.org thebulletin.org/2025/04/how-... #climatechange #nuclearweapons

Info on its energy gobbling should be in every news story about AI. It is newsworthy. It is inseparable from the tech itself.

An Australian man with a US work visa was detained upon reentry, called a “retard” and told, “Trump is back in town; we’re doing things the way we should have always been doing them.” He was held with 100 people including many Canadians. Posters celebrating equity had DEI scribbled out in marker.

Deserting the folks who put their lives on the line to help our troops. Afghans here are heroes who deserve every opportunity this country has to offer.

This awful trend isn't just a threat to human rights at home, it's a massive strategic vulnerability abroad. The ability to see and understand the humans in Moscow, Beijing, Sanaa—anywhere—is absolutely critical to assessing intentions, developing opportunities, and avoiding crises.

A few thoughts on nuclear weapons and the new administration, up today at @thebaffler.com thebaffler.com/latest/proba...

This is so spot on. When newspapers literally allow Cuomo to smear without evidence, contrary to all factual data, it harms us all. Specially when it’s our nation’s most storied paper. NYT Covers Up for Cuomo —https://fair.org/home/nyt-covers-up-for-cuomo/

This is an atrocity, to speak of human beings in this way.

It’s a month since the administration detained and disappeared a green card holder, a lawful permanent resident. We cannot allow this to be normalized or forgotten.

No matter how we get there, or the ultimate form it takes, the next chapter of this country cannot include ICE or anything like it.

Big yikes

Patrick Roy can do the funniest shit right now and challenge for offsides

a historian and a journalist go to a protest…

The indivisible protest in New York is at least 5x larger than they planned. They originally cordoned off the sidewalk+bus lane on 5th but they've had to close the whole street, and it's not enough.

“The CRT is a dangerous unit, and ProPublica’s reporting shows it operates without accountability under the protection of a corrupt and compromised mayor,” said civil rights group LatinoJustice. By @ericumansky.bsky.social

We built a government that relies upon contracted services for key functions. So shutting down contracts basically kneecaps many of those services.

Yoon crank that soldier ploy

It's funny de minimis getting eliminated was supposed to be a big deal, but now it's like on what products lol

The National Weather Service says a "multi-day catastrophic and potentially historic" storm is expected to impact multiple states beginning on Wednesday.

It's a shame the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance hasn't come over to bluesky, they'd love this :'(

not to keep re-stating the obvious, but this is precisely what max weber meant by politicians are leaders who shape the future; this is also a perfect example of the despotic demagoguery that weber feared would arise in a world where (liberal) politicians failed to shape a positive future vision.

You know what might have prevented this allegedly unfixable "administrative error"? Due process.

Can't have the naval officers learning about Einstein.

It's certainly not the first time America has shown its teeth in a rapacious and predatory way. But it's certainly the most absurd and bizarre. Just what the actual fuck is the only measured and wise commentary one can proffer on this gambit.

"Shocking" (not) news of the day: the US Air Force, after completely mismanaging a massive, unneeded effort to build high-priced, destabilizing, vulnerable land-based, nuclear-armed missiles, is looking to extend the life of the ones they already have until 2050: gulfnews.com/world/americ...
