“A minor” as a punchline is so weird. It doesn’t come from a POV of righteous indignation or concern for any potential victim. It’s just mockery. Every time that song is performed for a big TV event and the camera cuts to celebrities gleefully howling that lyric, the glibness makes me a little ill.

Is it just me or was the Toronto snowfall situation a tad overblown? I'm a bit shocked they closed schools for the day. It's inconvenient to get around but hardly unmanageable. I think people have forgotten that we used to have to deal with this sort of thing every 10 days 15-20 years ago.

This Grizzlies team is so damn deep. A team with a similar postseason trajectory might’ve let off the gas vs this scrappy Raps squad. But they’ve got three hockey lines of players, pretty much all deserving of rotation minutes. Just a horde of players. Fun to see the different combinations unfold.

Saw Emélia Perez at TIFF. Really was like nothing I’d ever seen and really did enjoy some sequences (esp. w/ Saldana). It felt very odd that the film seemingly demanded that I care deeply about Emélia’s plight because she was trans — like that absolved her for being a homicidal monster.

There aren't any egregious omissions in this year's Oscar nominees. I'd have Clarence Maclin over Ed Norton, who is fine in A Complete Unknown. Emilia Pérez is intermittently exciting and almost always very stupid. Zoe Saldanã is most deserving out of its noms (despite the blatant category fraud).

Once again, it feels like the NBA wastes the potential of MLK Day to tell a cohesive story about sports and social justice. Instead of business as usual, there should only be three games — a triple-header — with each hosted by a city relevant to MLK's life: Atlanta, Washington D.C. and Memphis.
