Labour is asking the Government why it is silent on Israel’s deliberate use of starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza, saying New Zealand should be speaking out.

“The review comes as part of a coalition agreement between National and NZ First” Luxon will go down as the worst dealmaker in the history of NZ politics. www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360...

What I found most telling in this story is that the Government *knew* they had to hide this from the public. They were so worried it would get out that they didn't do a regulatory impact statement, or even tell their own MPs until a just before they announced it.

Add this to the "there's nothing wrong with this in the abstract, but we can't count on the good faith of those receiving the recommendations" file for this government. www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360...

The Waitangi Tribunal review, like the Regulatory Standards Bill and the failed Treaty Principles Bill is about the right wing trying to neuter checks against Parliamentary overkill. It's about Seymour, Jones etc not wanting any impediment to doing what they want, irrespective of democratic mandate.

1. So committed there was zero consultation with half the population. 2. Progress has demonstrably been undone. 3. There is no expert advice to support this claim. 4. This may sound like a defense of fairness, but is a ploy to resist equity. 5. This “process” preserves advantages for cis white men.

Listen I love democracy as much as the next person but I’m so tired of submitting to bills, signing petitions, and sending emails to MPs. Why can’t these people do their jobs competently by default. They get paid really well like I don’t want to do all this I want to call HR and fire David Seymour.

Wonder if Luxon has paid his property tax?

"Bro, I have a brain!" fucking legend.

🧵1/ BIG NEWS!! CDC just dropped a landmark report — the first US data on RSV hospitalizations after rollout of the maternal vaccine and infant antibody. What happened? Hospitalizations in babies under 3 months fell nearly 50% vs pre-pandemic years. Quietly, radically effective.

These are the pay equity claims that the government wiped out in just two days to make its budget balance. It's appalling that tax breaks for tobacco companies are being funded by cutting women's pay rises and backpay. (Also listed in alt text)

You can’t make this up!! Big Alcohol blocked pregnancy warning labels for 20 years. Now they’re helping write the FASD plan Whānau live with the harm while lobbyists write the rules. This isn’t public health - it’s an industry free-for-all #WTFGovt #PublicHealthHijacked #NZPol #FASD #TePātiMāori

🧵1/4 “Do any of these people have values they stand by? Who can trust them from now on? Like so many other women who fought hard for these gains, I am incandescent with rage at this Govt’s cynicism & dishonesty. They are trashing our democracy & destroying so much of what is good about NZ” A Salmond

Cancer drug Revlimid has its origin in a pill that cost patients $7.50 each. Decades later, Revlimid costs more than $18,000 for a month’s supply... Even though it still only costs about 25 cents to manufacture. New: @davidarmstrongx.bsky.social @propublica.org

Wow. They very consciously hid what they were doing in order to mislead the public. That’s what this says.

bsky can I get a signal boost for this pls? My mate Robbie is going to be the first trans person to cycle around the world and needs someone to certify his record for Guinness in Auckland around 1pm on Saturday

The fuckers have scuppered Secondary School teachers from claiming.

A Sage journal that holds the distinction of highest number of retracted articles in the Retraction Watch Database likely made in excess of $400,000 in revenue from those papers, by our calculations.

So women can't be paid fairly I've got an idea, why don't we pay men less starting with the prime minister? #NZPol

Just remember the PM is earning almost half a million while his govt works to pay women as little as they can get away with.

'If the country is living beyond its means then it's time to get serious and levy taxes on capital gains' - the chorus from political pundits if they played left and right swing evenly

For 66 days the Netanyahu government has blocked ALL food and aid from going into Gaza. Now we're told it plans to seize and reoccupy huge parts of Gaza, as it pushes for Trump's plan to force 2 million Palestinians to leave. That would be ethnic cleansing by another name. We can’t stand for it.

The PM is speaking to BusinessNZ about the budget. It's as heartbreaking as you'd expect. He lives in a completely different world to the rest of us. He still thinks he can make growth out of austerity and the degradation of workers' rights.

The Financial Times is right.

We are here

#NZpol Power can do fucked up things to people. Backbenchers at the time, Willis, Upston, oh so very supportive of the pay equity legislation. In power, nope. They, like Bennett in welfare, didn't just pull the ladder up, they burnt it. Make. Them. Regret. It. Don't. Let. The. Public. Forget. It.

Note that if any NZ local govt or academic organisation agrees to this US demand, they will likely be violating the BORA and HRA.

As a matter of practical politics/legal realism, this is true. However, it comes with a “but” attached to it - we get to respond to and judge how governments choose to exercise this power. And so now the government has made its choice … what is ours?

BREAKING: Brooke VV either: (1) Has the Human Rights Analysis and is unlawfully stonewalling me for 20 days — a direct breach of the OIA. OR (2) She doesn’t have a summary of the Human Rights Analysis ready— in which case, how the fuck did the Govt just ram this bill through under urgency?

Sociopathy in the form of a Government. thekaka.substack.com/p/carers-tea...

Jenna Lynch: "So you just pick and choose when you'd like to do good law making or bad law making?" Chris Bishop: "That's the way the government operates." www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360...

This is really excellently snarky

Bernard Hickey: The Govt’s retrospective law wrecks 33 pay equity deals. $17 billion in wages & back-pay will not now go to over 150,000 workers. That means the $14 billion of tax cuts going mostly to landlords & highest earners are being paid for by wage cuts for the poorest NZers, mostly women.

Look at Erica Stanford supporting the original Pay Equity Act - with Nicola Willis nodding in support. Hollow words now - guess they don’t care about women and girls. #nzpol

This Government is like the villain from a badly written children's cartoon, which flogs the audience over the head with who the "baddies" are... like if it's not obvious enough... WTF, FFS, JC, SMFH,🤦 #nzpol #payequity #women #womensrights #luxon #budget #government #aotearoa #workersrights

“When the Council of Trade Unions looked into it a couple of years ago, they found that easily the biggest contributor to New Zealand’s inflation spike was not government spending but higher corporate profits.”… #nzpol thespinoff.co.nz/business/08-...

This isn't MAGA. Because Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom and probably more are all seeing this 'soft eugenics' treatment too. #AusPol #NZPol #CanPol #aukus #atlasnetwork #NDIS

Feedback on schools' relationships & sexuality educaiton framework due tomorrow everyone. The draft deliberately erases trans people, te Ao Māori and.... this was unexpected... it include lines like "teach students to know that... in any relationship, they should prioritise their own needs ..."

Half of New Zealand’s sea lion population is expected to disappear over the next three decades, promoting calls for the Govt to reconsider its decision last year to scrap the limit on sea lion bycatch. newsroom.co.nz/2025/05/05/n...

The good people behind the flu tracker study are searching for new participants, particularly young ones. It takes about two minutes once a week to tell them whether you've had the snuffles or COVID or anything in between. Easy as, plus you're helping SCIENCE. www.flutracking.net/Join/NZ/inv2...

Meanwhile, on the other issue pushed by its coalition partner National is hoping slips through while everyone is distracted, the cab paper & consultation response for the reg standards Bill has been released in the wake of its approval for introduction. Remarkably, it is LESS popular than the TPB.

Sure no Kiwis want this, but among the tiny minority that do support it are #AtlasNetwork’s Bryce Wilkinson, of Atlas ‘partner’ the New Zealand Initiative. 1 of 550+ orgs of the global #AtlasNetwork. Perhaps NZI corporate donors wrote it? #NZPol #AusPol www.nzinitiative.org.nz/reports-and-...

Big petition out of the unions heading towards 10k signatures already. Get on board! www.together.org.nz/fbt_for_pay_...

So, on the 92nd anniversary of the Nazis invading Germanys first sex-change clinic, SCOTUS rules that a blatantly discriminatory and unfounded ban on trans military service can proceed. Coincidence? I had a bit of hope for our country; but SCOTUS appears poised to rubberstamp Drumpfs every wish.😭
