Station break: time to pay the bills. If you would like a science fiction narrative set in a hopeful far-future aftermath to tech bros and religious nuts taking off for space and leaving a blasted Earth behind to pick up the pieces, may I recommend my Jacob's Ladder and White Space books?

We've been putting a little more emphasis on our blog at @vermonthistory.org, and I've been backing up the things that I've been writing to my newsletter. Earlier this week, I published a short evolution of snowshoes (based on ones we hold in our collection): transfer-orbit.ghost.io/vermont-hist...

I once had a friend come over to play a board game. It took 3-4 hours to set it up. By the time we were finished, it was past dinner time and I was like, there is “no fucking way I’m playing this.”

Apple's adaptation of @marthawells.com's Murderbot series is debuting on May 16th! I'm really excited to see how this plays out: I'm a big fan of the books. transfer-orbit.ghost.io/apple-murder...

I love how Merlin steps on his tail. (he’s totally not judging me… or you.)

We're delighted to see @karinlow.bsky.social's second novella in THE CROWNS OF ISHIA series - THE DESERT TALON - and the new novel from MICKEY7 author @edashtonwriting.bsky.social, THE FOURTH CONSORT, featured in @andrewliptak.com's February Book List over at Transfer Orbit! https://bit.ly/4jZJe17

There is no better example of how science fiction’s tendency to try and imagine a plausible future is like throwing a dart at a moving target than Larry Niven’s 1964 short story “The Coldest Place.”

Book 9 of 2025: Daredevil: Born Again by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. Daredevil is one of my favorite Marvel heroes, and I’m excited for the coming Disney plus series. This was an interesting, grim take on the character.

I’ve been enjoying Rings of Power, so I’m happy to see that it’ll be getting a third season. transfer-orbit.ghost.io/amazon-rings...

If you see this, quote post with a beach photo from your gallery.

But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Éowyn I am.

Well, there’s this evening’s reading sorted.

A good opportunity to revisit this classic. Only real lines know.

Fun, knock-on effect of cosplaying: fixing things! My snow rake snapped this morning, and for a moment I was like “ah, shit, I need to replace it,” before realizing that I *didn’t* need to: you can change or modify things, and have the tools to do so.

I found this to be a good read: www.404media.co/you-cant-pos...

Book 8 of 2025: Alien Clay by @aptshadow.bsky.social. Political prisoner sent to alien world by a fascist regime, only to find that the planet’s biosphere has its own plans. This felt neatly congruent with Children of Time.
