Federal land management stewards have been there for us. Now, let's come together to be there for them! Join us tonight at 6pm Pacific for a special #ParkChat during which we'll suggest 5 concrete ways we can support our #publiclands and their protectors. Art by National Park Posters

John Rogers Cox. Powerful painting That sky!

Lots of thought-provoking discussion at today’s excellent @campaign4parks.bsky.social Council meeting. Thanks to @maryannochota.bsky.social and @guyshrubsole.bsky.social for their stimulating contributions. @roseoneill.bsky.social

Our council has been coming together to share voices from across the country since 1936 🤝 Today we’re collaborating to bring about wilder & more diverse National Parks 🏞️ Thanks to @guyshrubsole.bsky.social & @maryannochota.bsky.social for speaking

Good to see you all again - an ‘anthology of authors’ indeed!

#FingerPostFriday from Dunedin, New Zealand (it’s not as steep as you might imagine, btw!).

This is a fascinating account of PR tactics against progressive environmental campaigns, written by @kat-jones.bsky.social So many similarities with the tactics deployed against those of us campaigning against raptor persecution/grouse moor management... aprs.scot/news/environ...

Apparently they like flopping out on warm tarmac (and who doesn’t?). It makes you a bit more alert as a driver, though.

Really pleased & proud to be part of the UK’s only author-run publishing co-operative.

If you thought the Highland midge was bad then try the Milford Track sandfly. Irritating, persistent & everywhere, the two must be related! @christownsend.bsky.social @dannyoutdoors.bsky.social

Great news and richly deserved

One for you @cumbriapr.bsky.social Wife & daughter just completed Te Anau parkrun in New Zealand. Cool location! 😄🏃‍♀️

There are some seriously good bike trails on New Zealand’s South Island, imaginative & well promoted and making a significant economic impact, such as here on the 55km Lake Dunstan Trail. Just don’t fall off half way round and break your elbow. 😢 centralotagonz.com/tracks-and-t...

‘Unstable icebergs’ is not your everyday National Park hazard, encountered today in Aoraki Mount Cook NP, NZ. (I returned unscathed.) @roseoneill.bsky.social @campaignerkate.bsky.social @lakesstiles.bsky.social

What a fab afternoon celebrating grass roots action in @campaign4parks.bsky.social Park Protector Awards 2024. Nature rich national parks for everyone are still achievable with these kind of extraordinary people! See list of finalists here www.cnp.org.uk/news/2024-na...

75 years ago legislation to create Britain’s National Parks was passed - and now government needs to show the same vision & commitment so our protected areas can realise their true potential. @campaign4parks.bsky.social @ramblersgb.bsky.social @jayneyb.bsky.social @campaignerkate.bsky.social

Some dreamy cirrus (alto cirrus? cirrostratus?) from this morning’s Derbyshire skies for you @lakesstiles.bsky.social

#PubSignThursday The Quiet Woman at Earl Sterndale, Derbyshire, sadly now closed and up for sale at the moment.

A chilly afternoon but super panorama from the top of Win Hill in the @peakdistrict.bsky.social

Robin Hood’s Bay on the Coast to Coast Walk and Cleveland Way National Trail. The North Yorkshire coast remains one of my favourite places to walk in the UK. 💚🥾

Excellent piece by YHA’s James Blake on the importance of making the outdoors both accessible and affordable for young people.

Too many choices! 😁

Big shout out to the Peak & Northern Footpaths Society, who since 1894 (yes, really!) have been helping walkers navigate the Peak District & South Pennines with their beautiful green signs. www.peakandnorthern.org.uk

It’s quite simple, if we want inclusive and nature-rich protected landscapes we have to resource them properly. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Delighted to be at Malham Youth Hostel today for the unveiling of a plaque to John Dower, architect of the 1949 National Parks Act (and who designed the YH!). @yorkshiredalesnp.bsky.social @campaign4parks.bsky.social @campaignerkate.bsky.social @roseoneill.bsky.social @ramblersgb.bsky.social
