Family man running a home-building nonprofit in a peakless place. I love mountain climbing and mountain lit and am on a quest to name THE classic books of climbing. (Occasionally distracted by base hits.) SuburbanMountaineer.com

This is a nice piece on James Pearson... who, dang... is still climbing. Great photo in the article, too: #climbing #bouldering #boulderer #SuburbanMountaineer gripped.com/news/james-p...

Doesn't this NEPA reform stuff require... legislation? Where is Congress?

The recording of 11-year-old Ga-eun Kwon redpointing La Fabelita 5.14b in Spain is nicely done, and wide, where you can see the route. Link to Youtube in the Gripped Story about two 11 y/os. #climbing #rockclimbing gripped.com/news/two-11-...

My in-laws brought their grandkids to Walt Disney World. The grandkids' parents went along to the flattest place they could imagine reluctantly. Here's what I found: #SuburbanMountaineer #climbing #mountains suburbanmountaineer.com/2022/07/31/t...

When you're achey and just want to be on the couch, nice to have skiing on.

Colin Haley spoke about Patagonia's M10 alpine hardshell pant on the Alpinist Podcast and said he's not one for fashion. But the design is a great illustration of how our mountain clothing is gear. www.climbing.com/gear/patagon...

This is nice...

The Guardian had a new article on DiGiulian. Good headline for her, but nothing really new. More of a People Magazine piece recapping stories with some of her comments on struggle with trolls. I liked her comment of spending the day on the big wall and getting away.

Good adventure alpine climb: Explorers Web reports that Yanick Ueltschi, Hassan Aljabbal, and Sohail Sakhi made a winter ascent of a 7,000er -- Batura I (7,795m) -- tolerated a missing sleeping bag and zig zagging around unexpected crevasses: #climbing explorersweb.com/a-rare-winte...

I appreciate Krakauer defending himself. I am just amused at, 28 years after 'Into Thin Air's publication, readers are digging into the events as it they're trying to solve the Kennedy assassination. I am also fascinated by how doubt on one story can lay credence to another's. Trolling basics.

I think I am going to watch this later this week. Thanks for sharing this, @gripped.bsky.social #climbing #rockclimbing #adventure #lifeundimmed #SuburbanMountaineer gripped.com/profiles/a-c...

Had some fun with the kids opening an old Jawbreaker as if it were a geode.

Some personal news: I was made redundant from UKClimbing as Editor-in-Chief after 10 years in the company. I'll continue my freelance journalism, but I'm also open to part/ full-time reporting/writing/editing opportunities and story tips. RTs/shares much appreciated. Thank you! www.natalie-berry.com

Every once in a long while I look up some tips on blogging to see trends, learn something, or be inspired. The results and titles have to do with "make your hobby your business," or "how to start a revenue making blog." ...Geesh. Every time I realize I am a guy with a hobby, and he just has a blog.

Weather delay here. So I opened a package from Bookshop.org I ordered for myself (not to review, necessarily.) I was surprised and charmed by the size. It's a pocket book, like the old novels by a pharmacy check out.

Good morning from an icy Lancaster, PA @andrewbisharat.bsky.social. I like the art at the top of the post. Did someone design it or was it, er, well, generated with an AI app??? eveningsends.com/bouldering-v...

We have the US Government renaming mountains over and over again. We have the Nepalese government adding mountains by changing the definition of mountains. And we have New Zealand giving a mountain the status of being a person. I think I am just going to focus on stories and leave this as backdrop.

I am cheering Nathan Longhurst on: gripped.com/profiles/100...

“For men interested in the climbing of the Face, only one thing counts — a climb, unquestionable in the eyes of sporting and climbing circles, from the lowest point to the 13,041-foot summit of thr Eiger.” —Heinrich Herrar in 'The White Spider' (1959)

"It’s a proven fact that we have 14 mountains above 8,000 metres. Various studies have confirmed it. We have also produced a map." 🗻 14 just in Nepal, that is; 20 worldwide. 🇳🇵 This is going to drive Reinhold Messner mad 😡 kathmandupost.com/national/202... kathmandupost.com/national/202...

Although the promos undersell its broad content, Other Everests covers many more Everest-adjacent issues, including climate change, industrialization, visitors to the region, and nationalism. I highly recommend it, even if you don't care about Everest. suburbanmountaineer.com/2025/01/31/c...

I was intrigued by the new insight on Wanda Rutkiewicz’s success in the Himalayas. A lot of the discussions in other books on gender and climbing have also been repetitive about women filling nontraditional roles. 'Other Everests' was not... suburbanmountaineer.com/2025/01/31/c...

I just learned about the United Airlines flight and the helicopter that collided at Reagan National. My heart really goes to all of them and their families.

“Standing there [atop Dhaulagiri in 1995,] I realized that I needed these trials and struggles, that they are important to me. It is with myself that I struggle in this life, not with the mountains.” --Anatoli Boukreev in 'Above the Clouds' #SuburbanMountaineer #lifeundimmed #climbing
