1. attended city hall rally to protest DOGE, NIH/NSF cuts, other EOs 2. promoted sciencehomecoming.com 3. advocated for trainees' financial support 4. educated "i don't read the news; too upsetting" colleagues 5. did good science w/ good scientists #NoliteTeBastardesCarborundorum #youdontworkforOPM

First preprint from our lab! An @jerlich.bsky.social collaboration We developed novel frameworks to study multi-agent decisions in mice. Mice flexibly shift their decision preference under social competition, by integrating real-time self and opponent information! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

We are at the "stop transsexuals from doing research" stage of societal decline.

At this point I think it's safe to assume my name is on a list somewhere for one reason or another related to my being transsexual. So, no use in radio silence. In 30m, I'll be watching Nancy Mace's hearing on our preclinical trans health research to see how my life is about to change (derogatory).

Perfect periodicity in grid cells would make decoding locations degenerate in large spaces. Slight distortions in grid patterns, as observed in vivo, solve this problem, enabling precise spatial navigation. Final version of the manuscript is now available 👇 elifesciences.org/reviewed-pre...

The UC system released guidelines related to immigration actions on campus. Key points for those of us who work on UC campuses: 1. Our police officers should NOT be working with immigration authorities to remove students. www.universityofcalifornia.edu/frequently-a...

Advancing Inclusive AI in Women’s Brain Health 🧠✨ We are thrilled to announce a $1.5M award from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to support the Women’s Brain Health Initiative in advancing inclusive AI through multi-modal biomedical datasets.

Amazing work from the lab now out! 🤩👇 @azvollan.bsky.social @rjgardner.bsky.social @m-bmoser.bsky.social @edvardmoser.bsky.social @kavlintnu.bsky.social

Shoutout to all the millennial junior faculty who finally got their dream jobs right as the scientific enterprise in the states is functionally dismantled.

Ah ok

remember stuff like this when they tell you that diversity means a lowering of standards

We are still taking applications!

Awesome opportunity alert

Happy head direction cell day y’all! On this day, 41 years ago, Jim Ranck recorded the first “HD cell” in his Brooklyn lab in 1984. Jim shared the news with the world at SFN that year, showing a video of the cell’s firing on a TV he somehow acquired and brought to his poster… (1/3)

Go one step further, set up a Pi-Hole at home and block meta’s various domains at the DNS level. We have one set up. It’s a fantastic ad blocker but it also blocks trackers which are on many (most?) websites that report back to companies like meta. pi-hole.net

It’s an incredible feeling to see something you’ve poured your heart into come to life. This work was born from my curiosity about hippocampal “cognitive tuning.” Our interpretation of the environment depends on our actions, constantly evolving as we pursue our goals www.nature.com/articles/s41...

would any faculty be interested in collaborating on this for SfN 2025 in san diego? submission deadline is Jan 22nd!

Just a reminder! We are hiring an assist/associate prof in the Integrative Anthropological Sciences at UCSB!! Come for the endless science, stay for the endless summer 😎 Deadline is approaching! 1/06/2025

Lovely historical perspective piece from Patricia Sharp here on the history of theories of the hippocampus: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.... 🧠📈

Did you know that Claude Shannon also developed maze solving algorithms? Which he implemented physically using a wooden mouse named Theseus. To solve a given maze, on a grid, Theseus used two modes: 🧵

Neuroscience students asked us to teach a PRACTICAL course on experimental methods, and it is now on YouTube! Please like and repost to help us get the word out! www.youtube.com/playlist?lis... Lecture 1: Signals and data acquisition Focusing on hardware, digital/analog I/O, synchronization 🧵

I joined 75+ @nobelprize.bsky.social laureates urging US Senators to oppose RFK Jr.'s confirmation as DHHS Secretary. If you’re in a state with GOP senators, PLEASE reach out to them! I’d deeply appreciate it if you amplified this post! 🙏 www.nytimes.com/2024/12/09/h...

My lab has an opening for a technician! It would be a great 1-2yr opportunity for someone interested in memory mechanisms, looking for ephys/rodent behavior experience before grad or med school. Please share with anyone you think might be interested! uwhires.admin.washington.edu/ENG/candidat...

New paper out in #Neuron: A general theory of sequential working memory in prefrontal cortex and RNN/SSMs with their exact neural mechanism. Plus unifying this new mechanism with the alternate mechanism of hippocampal cognitive maps! (1/9) www.cell.com/neuron/fullt...

Hello #SfN members!! Did you get an email asking you to vote on governing documents? Take a moment to approve the changes, among which allows grad students to vote in future elections! 🧠 #neuroskyence @societyforneuro.bsky.social

Hi Bluesky! I’m an Assist Prof at UCSB’s Geometric Intelligence Lab @geometric-intel.bsky.social, decoding the geometric signatures of intelligence 🧠✨ We bridge physics, neuro, math & AI to uncover how intelligence emerges + build intelligent models to advance the brain sciences! gi.ece.ucsb.edu

ICYMI: @sophiepeterson.bsky.social work comparing OFC and hippocampus in the retrieval and inference of context-dependent predictions is now out in Current Biology www.cell.com/current-biol... Also check out the great summary by (bsky-less?) Matt Gardner: www.cell.com/current-biol...

When we enter a new environment, we use visual input to rapidly build an internal model of the local spatial environment. How does our brain do this? We review past literature and suggest some new ways forward in our new review in @currentbiology.bsky.social: authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S...

Super excited to share our first preprint of work from the lab! We monitor and manipulate the CA1 representation of mice exploring a multicompartment environment to contrast geometric vs. predictive theories of cognitive mapping. TLDR: All signs point to a predictive theory! tinyurl.com/yeyv5p3x

My lab University College London is looking for an experimental postdoc to join our team. Interested in circuits underlying visually guided behavior, chronic #Neuropixel recordings or 2-photon imaging (Benchtop, #Mini2p)? Then check out our lab homepage www.ruedigerlab.com, apply & spread the word

Psyched that my postdoc work w @markbrandonlab.bsky.social + @atkeinath.bsky.social is now in Neuron! TL/DR: remapping in CA1 has a representational structure that is reliable across brains, and we use this representation to test models of cognitive maps. #NeuroSky #NeuroAI 🧪🧠 tinyurl.com/4juhmad8

We’re still trying to find all of our #BlackInNeuro fam here 👀 Let @blackinneuro.bsky.social know if you want to be added to this starter pack & use the BIN hashtag on your posts so we can amplify you 🤗❤️ go.bsky.app/F8PpdPe
