Further underlines the investment interest in sustainable forest management The challenge is developing the forest projects with the right blend of risk and opportunity www.esgdive.com/news/jp-morg...

The USFS had a “DOGE exemption” for reforestation contracts. That exemption has now been dropped, and all reforestation projects are paused again. Making forests great again!

All these years spent trying to grow more sustainable timber - the long chats with land owners, the meetings with communities and farmers, the planning and the audits, and the working with the vital small businesses that underpin our industry and apparently i'm a Lex Luthor of the log yard !

FOR SALE A parcel of milling oak located near Bungay in south Norfolk. The timber will be sold by tender. For further information please contact me via DM or email. I can then supply volume measures, specification and viewing details.

Worth 2 minutes of your time - this is the reality of much of the tree planting and woodland creation in the UK.

I’ve been blocked by Guy Shrubsole after I replied to his tweet about wildfires and conifers 🤷🏽‍♀️

Congratulations to the Scottish Forestry Trust on their continued support for PhD bursaries- an impressive cohort of current and recent students gave topical and insightful presentations.

RSFS journal Scottish Forestry has made recent wildfire articles publicly available on website www.rsfs.org.uk/index.php/co...

Applications are now open for the Viking Bursary which awards up to £2,000 to higher education students, helping fund original study and research. 🔗 www.forestryjournal.co.uk/news/2507030...

I'm really proud of @forestry.ubc.ca for launching the Bachelor of Indigenous Land Stewardship degree and I'm thrilled that the Mastercard Foundation is supporting the program with an $8m grant. Congrats to all the folks involved in making this degree happen! forestry.ubc.ca/news/bachelo...

Severe and prolonged drought conditions in one of Australia's largest forestry regions are killing pine trees, and raising concerns about the future of the country's building material supplies.

This is a great panel on West Coast Fires that happened last week at @forestry.ubc.ca that I'm just catching up on now. I'm a big fan of John Vaillant's writing incl. Fire Weather, and have been fortunate to have been in correspondence with @loridanielsubc.bsky.social for CJFR's fire collection

I’m losing my mind here. USTR made a list of “Unfair trade practices” they’re retaliating against, complaint number 5 is that the EU cares too much about stopping illegal deforestation, complaint number 7 is that the South Americans are doing too much illegal deforestation

NEW | Despite its hefty price tag, Carbon Capture and Storage is needed but why are we ignoring a ‘free’ equivalent? Paul Brannen, lays out the environmental benefits of building with timber at no cost to the Treasury. @paulbrannenne.bsky.social redbrickblog.co.uk/2025/04/carb...

Hiding in plain sight - a massive carbon removal option - akin in size to CCS - but without cost to the taxpayer - my blog for Labour’s Red Brick:

Reforestation and “rewilding” is not a threat to British food security, but it’s absolutely part of the solution.

Will more Canadian lumber now be exported to the U.K. ? In the 1980’s it was a major source of softwood timber for U.K.

Cement and concrete is responsible for circa 8% of global GHG, and demand is increasing steadily.

As a forester with most of a decade of experience working timber ops for the Forest Service, this is incredibly bad for a few reasons. The first being that he just fired a lot of the internal staff and plans to do a big RIF, so ALL of this will have to be done by contractors with little to no QA/QC

Some fairly healthy looking young Ash trees, in Evora Portugal - no obvious signs of Chalara

And what applies to new build should be applied to refurbishment. We need both to be sustainable.

This is a very cool and radical, relevant project if that is not immediately clear. And it needs to be scaled up.

We know how we could and should be building new homes. Frustrating that high profile eNGOs continue to promote the cement and concrete industry.

“As climate change accelerates, strategies that once seemed risky are now essential. Managed relocation, when guided by science and nuanced risk assessments, could help preserve the ecological heritage of countless regions.” www.earth.com/news/native-...

Infuriatingly, here in the U.K., self appointed “experts” with v limited practical experience still seem to believe that we have unlimited time and space for a rapid & just transition to a nature rich and lower carbon future
