The Supreme Court of Canada is ditching its "X" account. It invites people to instead follow the court on its LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube accounts, by @jimbronskill.bsky.social www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic... via @theglobeandmail.com

“Nearly 40% of the federal contracts that President Donald Trump’s administration claims to have canceled as part of its signature cost-cutting program aren’t expected to save the government any money, the administration’s own data shows.”

Fluoride is coming back to Calgary’s water in March 2025—great news for public health! Science is clear: fluoridation reduces cavities, especially for kids. Decades of research back its safety & effectiveness. Let’s stand with dentists & experts, not misinformation. #FluorideWorks 🦷 🚰

If you want to know how concerned to be about climate change, talk to a climate scientist. Very. If you want to know how concerned to be about the rise of fascism, talk to a historian. The ones I’ve spoken to are as concerned about our time as any other time in the last 100 years.

CCTA has many advantages over SPECT MPI as a first-line test for stable chest pain: 🎯 Better diagnostic performance 💰 Lower overall costs ☢️ Lower radiation dose 🌱 Lower energy use So why do many jurisdictions in Canada still prioritize MPI over CCTA as the first-line test? #RadSky #YesCCT

Solar & wind work. Opponents raise bad-faith “concerns”—but what about storage? birds? land? minerals? All have been addressed—fossil fuel are far worse. The real fear? Losing control over an energy system built on extraction. They can’t meter the sun or the wind, and that terrifies them. ☀️💨🔋

“It’s a miracle that I’m sitting here because I’m the daughter of Chinese-Vietnamese refugees… I got through high school, was privileged enough to go to Harvard and now (I’m) a pediatrician because people cared.” – Priscilla Chan Yet CZI just caved to anti-DEI pressure. Shameful and spineless.

If nuclear were the best option, China—one of the most centrally planned economies—would be building it as fast as solar. Instead, they’ve scaled solar & wind 𝙛𝙖𝙧 faster. Can’t blame NIMBYs or environmentalists for nuclear’s lag—it’s just slower & more expensive. The numbers don’t lie. ☀️ 💨 📈

I’m so tired of “I support 𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘭 immigration” gaslighting. The system is rigged against those who need it most—refugees, the poor, the displaced. Telling them to “respect the law” while making legal pathways nearly impossible isn’t principled, it’s just cruelty dressed up as order.

🧲 Let’s talk about MRI and energy use. 🌿 MRI machines are unique—they’re always “on,” constantly drawing power for the magnet & cooling systems. Energy use is slightly higher when scanning, but the bulk of consumption is a sunk cost, whether active or idle. 🔌 #medsky #radsky

🤔 Ever wonder why certain medical tests are overused while others with better evidence are harder to access? It’s not always about science—it’s about how we pay for healthcare. Reimbursement models shape practice patterns more than we realize. 🧵 #medsky

‼️ Why do some politicians & lobbyists attack renewables? It’s not about facts. It’s about protecting fossil fuel profits. They use misleading claims to delay the transition. Let’s break down their excuses & why they don’t hold up. 👇 Debunking anti-renewable myths:

Trusting climate scientists who follow peer-reviewed research over fossil fuel interests that profit from denial is basic grade-school critical thinking. We teach kids not to trust a candy company saying sugar is healthy—why wouldn’t adults apply the same logic to climate change? 🤔 🧠

Give a man a barrel of oil, and he’ll have energy for a few months. Teach him to capture the sun’s free energy and store it in batteries, and he’ll have power for life. Which is bad news for those selling oil. #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower ☀️🔋

If you’re 30, over half of all man-made carbon pollution has happened in your lifetime. This high-carbon way of life isn’t “how it’s always been”—it’s recent, and it’s a crisis. 🌍🔥 #ClimateAction #ActNow

Just to say, if you are 30, more than half of all human fossil fuel emissions have occurred in your lifetime #dataviz

Things Musk’s DOGE has deemed “wasteful”: 🌀 The Weather Service ✏️ Schools 🦠 Medical research 🏥 Medicare & Medicaid 🧑‍🚀 NASA 🌿 Environmental Protection Agency Things they deemed important priorities: 💰 Doubling DOGE’s own budget 🧙 A “DEI” witch hunt 🤑 Tax cuts for billionaires

Understand the pragmatism in rebranding DEI to ACB to avoid funding cuts, but frustrating to see preemptive compliance with an ideology favoring unearned privilege while claiming “meritocracy.” Data is clear—systemic inequities exist. Rebranding is fine if policy stays intact, but is it step one?

Today is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science—a reminder that talent is universal, but opportunity hasn’t always been. Efforts to expand access aren’t “anti-merit”—they help ensure we don’t overlook brilliance. Science thrives on diversity. #WomenInScience #IDWGIS 👩‍🔬👩‍🚀

📺 🏈 Powerful Super Bowl Commercial from @sciencemoms.bsky.social 🔥🌎 “Our window to act on climate change is like watching [our kids] grow up—blink and we miss it.” @reedomary.bsky.social @katehanneman.bsky.social @sustainablerad.bsky.social

Trump’s executive order to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement is wildly out of touch with public opinion. @yaleclimatecomm.bsky.social study shows over 70% of registered U.S. voters support staying in the agreement. The idea of a “populist revolt” against climate action is pure fiction.

A physician member of the AMA—who requested anonymity for fear of retaliation—is sounding the alarm. “The current admin prohibited all communications of the CDC and other agencies with the public. Now, the public and physicians are left with no info on food recalls or disease outbreaks.“

The beauty of renewables is that they democratize energy—no monopolizable feedstock, no centralized control. Maybe that's the real reason for the pushback. 🤔 #ClimateSky
