The GOP is signaling major cuts to Medicaid are coming. Recent studies have shown cuts to Medicaid have a big consequence that gets typically ignored: crime increases. boltsmag.org/medicaid-cov...

so then it's not a cost-cutting team, is it

This fantastic piece by Stewart Patrick is an excellent summary of the wrecking ball that Trump is taking to the entire international order crafted by Dem & Repub presidents over 80 yrs. Who does this benefit? The Kremlin, for certain. No one else. carnegieendowment.org/emissary/202...

Yes but unless anyone can prove to them that this remains true, there is a problem here. And unless winning the court case means keeping the job, it is true.

Even then they had to do “Nazi-era.” It’s like … ok well who is the main group associated with doing that salute in that era?

Musk took over the US government with graft and is using it—in combination with his space launch firm—to exploit an allied country that’s suffering under Russian invasion for its mineral rights. The scheme is so imperiously evil I feel like audiences wouldn’t find it believable in a Bond villain.

Leaders of the Social Security Administration had just opened an investigation into a career employee they believed was improperly sharing information with Musk’s DOGE team when Trump elevated the same employee this week to acting SS commissioner www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

On 22 February 1943, three young Germans, members of the White Rose Society -- Hans Scholl, Sophie Scholl, and Christoph Probst -- were guillotined by the Nazis for distributing leaflets speaking out against the crimes of the Third Reich. Their bravery, and their cause, will not be forgotten.

There’s only one reason to fire and replace the JAGs and it ain’t a good one.

MORE: Russian forces recently eliminated the Ukrainian pocket west of Kurakhove amid continued reports that the Russian military is redeploying elements of the Russian Southern Military District's (SMD) 8th Combined Arms Army (CAA) from the Kurakhove direction to the Toretsk direction. (1/3)

Yikes. He fired all of the JAGs plus the Chairman? That's not great.

Firing all of the JAGs (Judge Advocates General)—the top lawyers in each service branch—is just as bad as, if not worse than, firing (most of) the Joint Chiefs.

Because of a Trump executive order, the Census Bureau is stopping work on statistics that could help protect the rights of transgender people, its recently departed director, Robert Santos, tells NPR. By @hansilowang.bsky.social

Pay attention to this. Replacing JAGs with loyalists enables whatever orders Trump and Hegseth issue to be interpreted as lawful.

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

Here is the Associated Press complaint: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us... And here is the motion for a preliminary injunction: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Jack is a Nazi and a stochastic terrorist who literally wrote a book published last year called unhumans laying out a plan and call to exterminate anyone left of Hitler because they are not humans. NPR stop doing Nazi revisionism challenge failed yet again.

…. These muhfuggers think we as dumb as they look

Cuts to NSF expected to be at 50% reduction in force for an independent agency that fuels discovery and innovation. "The NSF budget was $9B, or 0.13% of the total [budget]." This is not about fiscal prudence. This is about killing universities. nanoscale.blogspot.com/2025/02/the-...

Just a reminder that fascists, authoritarians, dictators of all stripes destroy archives— books, museums, databases, &c— because those things provide windows onto a plurality of other ways we might organize the world. And so preserving, defending, and spreading that knowledge harms those regimes.

The chyron. All she said was "We will follow state and federal law" and Trump asserted that he IS the law.

And we got finger-wagged by a New England journo "expert" for not staying in our lane and sticking to our knitting (his words) and leaving hard stuff to (paywalled) NYT and Wapo. So we were right, and we did the right thing, and we didn't need anyone's permission to make our own news decisions.

A Brief History of Kids Today Have Too Much Freedom 🧵

If this was proposed as a show, there would be so much disbelief.

"a non-partisan USPS is foundational to democracy. politicizing it is an attack on voting. we cannot have free and fair elections if one party controls the mail. this is a coup." there, i did it for you. just repeat that.

It's weird how everyone in the world knows a Nazi salute when we see it, with the notable exception of journalists and their editors.

Amazing look inside a constituent call to a GOP House office:

the fact that this is just a straightforward retelling of yesterday's events without hyperbole

The focus is on Bannon/Bardella. But this detail matters: “The salute during Bannon’s speech brought cheers from the audience.” This is the essence of fascism. Not just the lone figure on stage, throwing up Nazi salutes — but the gathered many, braying for it, desiring it, finding pleasure in it.

BREAKING | Man from political party that keeps accidentally practicing Nazism gives a controversial but certainly accidental gesture that many say could possibly resemble exactly what we all saw it definitely was both this time and every other time one of them oopsie-daisy does it.

Say it loud: this is fascism – and we must all resist it | Letters

This timely reminder from Carole Cadwalladr. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

The @nytimes.com changed the story and has now added this info after I caught them last night. This is why I screenshot these stories. There was no editors note added nor did they point out that a stealth edit was made. h/t @shoq.bsky.social

German diplomat to Clemenceau at the Versailles peace conference: 'I wonder what future historians will say about this?' Clemenceau:'They won't say Belgium invaded Germany.'

Why is this so hard for news orgs? www.status.news/p/cbs-evenin...

NEW: A regional FEMA chief of staff took Elon Musk's Fork in the Road offer. He has proof of receipt. But they didn't honor it. Instead, they fired him 13 days later. Now, this retired Navy captain is speaking out. www.thebulwark.com/p/musk-doge-...

It's been 45 years of calling the federal govt wasteful and during that time period people had very little grasp of what the federal govt does or that message originates from businesses that want to get away with under paying people and selling and releasing poison

State media. I was not joking.

DOGE has already cost us more than Tesla pays in taxes most years
