Toni Morrison said that racism is about forcing Black people (and everyone else targeted) to waste time proving ourselves instead of being ourselves. That’s the issue on this platform. Who gets to spend time being themselves, and who has to spend time proving we deserve to be here?

I don't have all the pieces yet, so y'all correct me if I'm mistaken. It feels weird to blur out the person's name who fantasized seeing Aveta pushed off a cliff. It's bad enough not to ban Alice, but it's wild to protect her.

Now that alt text is visible to sighted users, it's a good time to plug @alt-text.bsky.social. Tag the bot in a reply to a post that has one or more images without alt text, and then the bot uses OCR to extract the text and reply with the OCR'd text as alt text. (This only works for images of text.)

Making Bluesky be accessible from early on is going to be important. I was happy to see that "alt text" is enabled for images, but it appears not to be a norm that people use it. Hopefully, Bluesky will eventually include reminders/nudges, but until then, we can all help remind each other.

Say the compliment out loud. I have some coworkers I really dig working with. I think that every time we do projects. So SAY it. “I really enjoy working with you! We always get it done and it’s always super collaborative!” Don’t just THINK the compliment. Say it. Then tell their boss.
