bathroom bills were considered a hugely bigoted overreach a decade ago and the backsliding on trans rights is the result of a sustained propaganda campaign by elites the pendulum can swing back the other way if you try, and anyone who is not willing to do so is showcasing their own bigotry

Excited for this Oscar season to be over primarily so I stop getting I'm Still Here and I'm Not There confused, and then getting more confused because I'm Not There is NOT the name of the Bob Dylan movie that was nominated (but I keep calling it I'm Not There).

i thought sean baker's speech was really inspiring

We threw out a hundred years of anti-corruption reforms overnight and so far barely anyone has even noticed.

This remains the best piece I’ve read about Anora and speaks to my feelings about the movie more than anything else. angelfoodmag.com/romance-labor

He finally had to knock on wood. I think we all know someone who has.

here’s how madame web can still win

[willem dafoe unprompted] now, this cookie monster. [toothy smile] what a creature, what a lust. it consumes him. [crosses legs] he’s really a tragic figure.

Thinking a lot about the belief that humans are overwhelmingly mostly healthy and normal and that an increase in chronic illness diagnosis is due to overdiagnosis when it’s actually that chronic illness/disease is the norm and we’ve been not detecting most of it www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

So many people have to be taught to think of politics as intersecting with their day to day lives AT ALL, then have to be convinced they possess agency within that realm. It’s a long process, but bit by bit you get there.

people in the replies to this are getting into arguments so heated that they're blocking each other. some say we need sports to distract people like these, but sports are for intellectuals. maybe we could reboot the west wing for them or something

something I’ve been thinking about recently is that most cis people basically think transition care is optional and “maybe they’ll kill themselves if they can’t get it” and they don’t realize that legal and safe hrt and the availability of surgery is like basic bedrock dignity shit

Coincidentally, getting out of a show last night, I yelled at a couple dweeb ass finance bros who were fucking with/taking pictures of an unhoused person's stuff while they weren't around. Their response to this was to get up in my face and shout "MAGA, bro!" over and over. Feels fitting.

“The thing that I can’t get over is that the actual richest man in the world directed my fucking firing. I make $50k a year and work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer.”

We have seen two impeachment worthy stories break today alone. Incredible levels of corruption and lawlessness. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

hard not to feel intensely irritated at people like this but on the other hand a big chunk of people, probably most, are just never going to become politics obsessives. even basic political literacy requires a healthy information environment www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

I am always shocked at what this guy's voice actually sounds like.

It was a child.

Happy weed pin Wednesday to everyone music.apple.com/us/album/wee...

I called my red district rep this morning, here's I what focused on: ~ adding $4 trillion to the deficit is insane for "common sense spending" Republicans to get behind ~ this hurts their voters ~ it's fuckin un-Christlike to cut medicare/caid (since every Republican pretends to be Christian)

this is why u weren't voted pope 😞

*frantically smashing answer buzzer* what is, the adult fiction section of your hometown public library when you're 12-14 years old

k. I knew a dude in college who dated a tree spirit (which is to say, a tree) and he didn't get a Times article about it

it’s tiring talking about this every few weeks but if you want to launch your newsletter on substack and share revenue with those guys, that’s your choice. but at this point you know exactly what you’re getting into and everyone else knows, too.

It's been a long time since I've had to interact with anyone at OPM, but if my old nemesis is still there, these little twerps have no idea the kind of stubborn career feds they are up against.

Please take a moment from your day to watch this baby fast and furious their way across a basketball court

Wow thanks.

orange man abolishing term limits is going to backfire so epicly when he sees the $200,000,000 damien hirst designed Clinton/Clinton 2028 logo

Carnegie was an absolute piece of shit who bet that he could donate, bequeath, and endow his way into being remembered as a good guy and it worked.

I do not want to minimize in any way the threats being made or direct material harm being done to people who aren't imprisoned. But we have to see that imprisoned people are getting the cruelest treatment first, with the relatively least amount of outcry.

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

I literally reported this Wednesday.

Back when I was in college there weren't any gender neutral bathrooms in the building where the LGBTQ group's office was, so we made our own. This culminated, ultimately, in writing word for word replicas of personal ads from old issues of the Advocate on the doors in lieu of gendered signs.
