Measure ULA, aka The Mansion Tax, has raised so little money and squelched so much development, the city could save $$ by getting rid of it. My latest for the Westside Current. www.westsidecurrent.com/news/cracks-...

Indeed, he did. Ignorance is the new orange.

I took a deep dive into how the two companies are alike, and honestly, the similarities are kind of startling.

Now Trump Pentagon ordered the removal of web site references to General Colin Powell, the Tuskegee Airmen and one of the flag-raisers at Iwo Jima ( in addition to Jackie Robinson and Medgar Evers) Leave a message at the White House. (202) 456-1111

More chaos at LAHSA. My latest for the Current. www.westsidecurrent.com/news/former-...

LAHSA has five communications officers cc:ed on every press release, but no one at the LA Homeless Services Authority can apparently say whether the NGOs they're supposed to be administering are actually doing any good. My latest. www.westsidecurrent.com/opinion/behi...

DO IT

So good. Love ya, Katie!

My first Substack post!

Another day, another example of LAHSA’s waste, fraud and abuse. My latest.

LAHSA’s corruption is boundless. $1.2 billion budget and they can’t follow basic ethics laws.

Agreed. I’ve been critical of the LA Times in the past, but this is spot-on and ballsy, to say the least.

On January 9, the 8 year saga of Venice/Dell came to an end. Millions were wasted, no one got housed. Here’s my assessment of what went wrong.

Happy #BlackHistoryMonth to everyone whose actual common sense tells them that people of color, women, and LGBTQs work very hard to earn their positions and their achievements -- unlike nepo offspring, Fox News casting-call figures, and "loyalty before merit" hires. fortune.com/2025/01/30/t...

“Soon-Shiong is not the rightful heir to any of that. He does not have a voice in civic life because he built a great newspaper. He bought a great newspaper and now thinks it gives him expertise in civic life. It doesn’t. “ Well put.

Hard to understand why LAUSD is in such a rush to re-open this school. More than half the parents surveyed say they feel it’s not safe, as do some experts the Current spoke too. And yet today is the day it reopens.

“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.” Diary of Anne Frank January 13, 1943

“There’s a temptation to say her political career is over 17 months before the next mayoral election. Don’t be foolish enough to count her out.” Some are saying Bass’s political career is over. Here’s some great analysis from Jon Regardie.

www.westsidecurrent.com/news/when-th... Great reporting from Jamie Paige on the International effort to fight the Palisades fire, and CD11 Councilmember Traci Park’s efforts to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

LAFD seems to be denying that fireworks played a role in starting the Palisades fire, but locals say it’s no surprise. My latest. www.westsidecurrent.com/news/a-famil...

My latest for the Current examines the impacts this firestorm may have on the city’s ongoing push to densify. www.westsidecurrent.com/news/the-202...

A boutique hotel and the real meaning of community in a time of crisis. www.westsidecurrent.com/news/venice-...

Wow. Appears our neighbors to the south are sending their best people.

Interesting (but not surprising) that Fox News chose to put LA Times owner Patrick Soon-Shiong on air to talk about the wildfires instead of, say, Executive Editor Terry Tang or someone from the news side involved in actual coverage of the fires. www.foxnews.com/media/wildfi...

In this midst of this catastrophe, my LA neighborhood is stepping up to help. #LAwildfires www.westsidecurrent.com/news/venice-...

“Financial and personal connections seem to be the rule rather than the exception in homelessness programs. “ LAHSA’s boundless corruption continues. Great commentary from Tim Campbell.

It’s been some year. Here’s a wrap up of how I’ve covered it. Onward! www.westsidecurrent.com/opinion/colu...

Critics say the auto-deleting of messages allows officials to skirt the California Public Records Act and the city’s own document retention policies.

Terrific interview with LA’s new Council President by the always great Jon Regardie. www.westsidecurrent.com/news/looking...

You had a good run, @latimes.com. Sorry you’re not a real newspaper anymore.

We sometimes throw “must read” around casually, but this, truly, is a must read. @davidmcswane.bsky.social is one of the finest investigative reporters in the United States, and this story is a masterwork. If you read it, you won’t forget it. @propublica.org www.propublica.org/article/thom...

The LA Times presented some comprehensive coverage on the project today. Traci Park is calling the project dead, and the mayor appears to agree. www.latimes.com/homeless-hou...

I've been reporting on the proposed development now known as Venice/Dell for about seven years now. Yesterday, the project's progress took another turn, as LADOT denied the developers the right to use the parking lots they want to build on. www.westsidecurrent.com/news/la-s-bo...

Eye-popping thread showing the deleterious effects of ULA on LA’s housing production are intensifying. Jibes with my reporting in October. IMHO, exemptions are needed. www.westsidecurrent.com/news/mansion...

The 2.6 acre Venice/Dell PSH project, which has been mired in controversy for seven years and has already cost millions, is headed to LADOT and Coastal next week with little public notice. LA’s city attorney would rather it didn’t. www.westsidecurrent.com/news/coastal...

The incompetence and possible graft revealed by the County’s LAHSA audit would result in layoffs in any other business. The city & county are proposing…more reports. www.westsidecurrent.com/news/audit-r...

If you have a website, a Substack, a YouTube channel, Twitch, IG, FB, or newsletter, you have a vested interest in moving over to Bluesky where your external links aren't throttled. Elon isn't looking out for you; he's looking out for Elon.

Essential Jon Regardie reporting on the political divide in Los Angeles revealed by Mark Ridley Thomas’s appeal. Crook? Or savior? www.westsidecurrent.com/news/as-mark...

www.westsidecurrent.com/news/la-s-ja... Great in-depth reporting from Jamie about how the ongoing jail crisis will be impacted by Proposition 36.
