Doing some role playing this week with a recreated Trial of Socrates & whether or not to reinstate democracy or oligarchy in Athens after the Peloponnesian Wars. Am currently selecting which dice seem most appropriate for animal sacrifice & Alcibiades' attempted coup... Big decisions. #RTTP #RPG

Texas peeps, it's getting closer. If in doubt that you've had two doses, go get another. Costco was happy to give me a booster.

Some good replies here. One more plug though - Maintenance Phase @yrfatfriend.bsky.social and @michaelhobbes.bsky.social did 4 (!) cool episodes on Oprah. She’s not great y’all

Please read and share. But especially share with folks that might not realize how critical Section 504 is to so many people. I tried to write a simple clear explanation at the break. I hope it reaches some people who aren't already on our side. Gift link: www.startribune.com/why-are-repu...

The entire thread here is fabulous, but today I’m loving the thread-within-a-thread on Edmonia Lewis 🖤

Happy birthday to Queen Seondeok of Silla (c. 595 ~ 610 - 647), 27th ruler of one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, from 632-647, who brought about a renaissance in culture & science and built the Cheomseongdae moon & star-gazing observatory. 🐡🧪👩🏻‍🔬🔭#histsci Known for her intelligence, wisdom & 🧵

My co-author, @FancyNahyan.bsky.social, and I are happy to announce that, after an 8-month delay, our essay “Plague History, Mongol History, and the Processes of Focalisation Leading Up to the Black Death” has finally been published. It’s open-access: www.cambridge.org/core/journal... #histmed 🧪

Sigh. Maybe he’ll let me work on it tomorrow

Thanks, Paul, for pointing to this. Am going to do a thing I rarely do, which is post without footnotes! Three points: 1. The way to defund the humanities has always been through de-legitimizing the value of humanities research and teaching. Not new, but an accumulating menace . 1/

It IS happening and has been since 2019. FL was the testing ground for it by 2020

Good advice, FYI

We are really on our own now

Promoting diversity is not a crime.

It is important to celebrate the wins when we get them.🥳 President Donald Trump’s administration halted defunding the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, after Democracy Forward, on behalf of the city of Baltimore and a nonprofit, filed a lawsuit. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

Day 14: Early Modern Black Boys w/ Parrots In paintings where the central figures were yt & had Black figures in the background, that framing sometimes depict status & wealth. We undo those readings & focus on the marginal figures who were special ppl in their own right. 🧶 #BHM #indieyarndyer 1/8

I have been struggling to articulate how the NEA’s grant changes make me feel & what to say about it because it feels like a moment where finding the right words is a matter of profound importance I found them in my inbox today in an email from New Harmony entitled “Our Values Are Not For Sale”

I work at a Hispanic-serving institution where we’ve never asked for citizenship before. Now I wonder how many of my students will fail to show up for classes at all. It’s a travesty and while we won’t all suffer equally, we WILL all suffer from this
