Wanna know how many non-native species dwell in the worlds' cities? We got you! In a new database paper led by @djli.bsky.social and GUBIC, we counted 'm all! - 8140 species - 553 cities - Winner? Erigeron canadensis, found in a whopping 469 (85%) of these! More -> the3dlab.org/2025/02/24/n...

Biodiversity loss "leakage" to other areas ..."reclaiming typical UK cropland for nature may be [several] times more damaging for global biodiversity than the benefit it provides local species, due to the displacement of production to more biodiverse regions." phys.org/news/2025-02...

Congratulations to Sandra and Eduardo for this important recognition of their entire career, including of course their significant contributions to IPBES.

The world needs more #WomenInScience! But a lack of female role models makes it difficult for girls and women to envision themselves as leaders in science.♀️πŸ§ͺ This International Day of Women and Girls in Science, meet our scientists and hear their inspiring stories: https://buff.ly/3WVk4qE

This is me☺️ Thanks Laura for highlighting our profiles! The journal Biological Invasions is a great community of colleagues and friends, and of course a great journal where people from all over the world have the opportunity to evidence on this critical driver of biodiversity loss.

The data is in. 2024 was the warmest year on record, and probably in the whole of human history – about 1.6Β°C warmer than the pre-industrial period. More than 1 billion individual thermometer measurements, made by thousands of people over many decades, have been condensed into a single number.

For those who just submitted a manuscript before the break, congratulations! Well done! Go celebrate & relax during the break! Just keep in mind that editors (the unsung altruistic heroes of scientific publishing) would like to do the same, so just give them some more time to respond. πŸ™
