Booker: "This isn't just about Mr. Garcia. This is about every American understanding that this president is making an assault on the due process rights that are afforded to people in our country ... you cannot disappear people off American streets."

Warren: "Congress has a job right now, and that is to step up and take this authority away from Donald Trump."

business is going to run out of patience, but, more importantly, workers are going to go through so much turmoil with layoffs when their employer cannot plan more than 30 seconds in advance. this constantly shifting nonsense is going to destabilize to what's left of our society.

Oh great. Another scary trend.

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein said that FEMA will stop matching 100% of the money for Hurricane Helene recovery in North Carolina. Donald Trump’s administration refused Stein’s request to extend its 100% reimbursement period for another 180 days calling it “unwarranted.” Appalling.

Democracy isn’t dying in darkness it’s being dismantled at the hands of the Supreme Court of North Carolina. @allisonjriggs.bsky.social won this election fair and square back in November. Her opponent is a petulant Confederate cosplayer who can’t handle losing. Concede Jefferson Griffin.

This is what its like to work in the Trump administration now. When a career official objected to declaring that living immigrants were dead on legal and ethical grounds, security guards went to his office and told him to leave. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Proud to file an amicus brief in support of the Institute of Peace, an independent nonprofit created by Congress that DOGE lawlessly commandeered. The 113 military & foreign policy officials who signed the brief have seen the "blood and treasure" saved by the Institute's work, and know its worth.

It sounds amazingly reasonable on the face of it, but we all know that a lot of bigotry, racism, misogyny, and Trump's desire for political vengeance really lurks under many of these terms. We will see how it really gets applied.

Sen Lisa Murkowski: The Constitution gives Congress the power to assess and levy tariffs. Congress needs to reassert its authority as the Constitution prescribes.

The American base commander at Pittufik is fired after she pledges to local staff that they and their country will always be treated with dignity and respect... it provides further clear evidence of Trump's and Vance's highly predatory intentions towards Greenland. www.berlingske.dk/indland/her-...

You gotta be kidding me. No one should be forced to create an account on X to boost Elon Musk’s numbers just so they can get info about the Social Security benefits they paid for. www.wired.com/story/social...

Another segment of Trump voters that he has abandoned. "Thanks, I don't need you anymore."

If some media entity with money and lawyers on hand wants to file a motion right quick in Kilmar Abrego Garcia's case requesting the court provide public access of today's 1p hearing due to the extraordinary public interest in the proceedings, that would be good.

I'm seeing renewed talk of this as we near the April 20 deadline for the recommendation from DHS (Noem) and DoD (Hegseth). IMO, there is a non-negligible likelihood that they will recommend invoking the act, but I haven't seen significant attention from Senate and House Dems.

This is illegal as hell. I hope that legal migrants fight this, quickly. And wait for it: US citizens will 'accidentally' be put on this list, too. Maybe folks Musk doesn't like, or lawyers Trump can't exhort #giftarticle www.nytimes.com/2025/04/10/u...

The intended purpose of this move is to try to bankrupt the SSA. Undocumented migrants pay money in, without receiving payout, so they effectively subsidize and stabilize the social security system for US citizens. From the MAGA perspective, which aims to eliminate social security, that's awful.

Over 650 known cases so far, and most have nothing to do with pro-Palestinian advocacy. The admin seems to be engaged in a breakneck effort to kick out every foreign student who has had even the most minor interaction with the police possible, including for TRAFFIC CITATIONS and JAYWALKING tickets.

BREAKING: Judge Paula Xinis issues an order following tonight's Supreme Court ruling, ordering the government to "take all available steps to facilitate the return of Abrego Garcia to the United States as soon as possible." [1/2] Background at Law Dork: www.lawdork.com/p/breaking-s...

My family got these payments when my dad died at 34 years old after serving in the Navy for a decade from what he had paid in. I was five. Jeanine is an incurious ignoramus. Thanks @jessicatarlov.bsky.social for correcting her, which is God’s work.

Huge news. Read the thread.

Companies are taking extreme measures to get goods into the country before the tariff axe falls.

I'd bet most Americans don't realize the six Nazi extermination camps during World War II also involved rendition to a foreign country. Auschwitz, Treblinka, Belzec, Sobibor, Chełmno and Majdanek were all located in Poland. Not Germany. Important historical fact.

"This is what arbitrary, absolute power looks like. And this is why the men who wrote the Constitution never wanted anyone to have it" www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Unfortunately, I have to say this again: US election infrastructure isn't perfect and there's still work to do to make it more secure. But there is simply no credible evidence that the 2020 election outcome was altered through technical attacks, despite exhaustive scrutiny. 1/2

What do you wanna bet that they identify vaccines as the “culprit” in this sham investigation?

Creeping towards totalitarianism is so much more effective.

Ours is a great nation because of our system of checks and balances, separation of powers, individual rights, and an independent judiciary — as the Academy’s founder John Adams put it, “a government of laws, not of men.” And we are a great nation because we have invested in the arts and sciences.

The U.S. House of Representatives voted Thursday to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, a major voter suppression measure that, if it became law, could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters and badly undermine U.S. democracy. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

The 10% tariff alone is a $2500 per household annual tax hike!
