Our latest findings on social behavior circuits is out: how does the brain responds to social isolation? Terrific work by @dingliu.bsky.social et al. uncovering a circuit with similar neural architecture as physiological needs (hunger, thirst, sleep..). Detailed thread soon. rdcu.be/ebo63

Can the mouse visual cortex harbor a functional organization for stimulus features? TLDR: Yes, we found ocular dominance columns in this tiny cortical region! Check our paper, open access in @naturecomms.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s41... and/or read the 🧵 below. @mpiforbi.bsky.social (1/7)

With a slight delay, we turned this awesome paper into a comic 😍 Sneak peek below, check out the full version here: tinyurl.com/3jajehbn @mathiasvschmidt.bsky.social @joeribordes.bsky.social #neuroskyence #scicomm #wisskomm #sciart

It is my great pleasure to share this paper from my postdoc in which we developed an implantable biohybrid neural interface toward synaptic deep brain stimulation. Great collaboration with @tobiasruff.bsky.social and team at ETH!

New work accepted to #AISTATS2025 ✨ We developed a new explainable AI method to better understand time-series data. We can map back inputs (neurons) to their latent space. Basically merging #CEBRA with measuring the individual neurons contribution over time arxiv.org/abs/2502.12977

How do different sensory signals combine in the computation of cognitive maps? I’m thrilled to share our new preprint, in which we investigate this question in the context of the head-direction system: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Tomorrow we leave Frankfurt after 6 wonderful years 🤗. This is simply a great place to live and do science. I'll always be grateful for the incredible friends and memories we made here, and for the excellent training I received at @mpibrain.bsky.social.

So excited to see this out, heroic effort by the brilliant Sara Mederos, uncovering the detailed brain mechanisms of how animals learn to overcome their instinctive fear responses, from neural circuits & cell types down to synaptic plasticity mechanism! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

New SWC research identifies the precise brain mechanisms that enable animals to overcome instinctive fears. Full story ⬇️ www.sainsburywellcome.org/web/research...

PLEASE SHARE 💜 With uncertainty in federal research funding & hiring, we are offering *FREE* resume/CV reviews for early-career scientists in the US who have rescinded job offers or who risk layoffs. If you feel this support would benefit you, submit resume/CV here: forms.gle/CCbbu2X5GJwH...

If you want to build #SNNs with #dendrites this is what you need. Check it out!

📢 New preprint from the lab: We are very excited to report the discovery of an oscillation in the Central Thalamus using rare direct recordings of human thalamic electrophysiology. The novel oscillation is tightly coupled to specific, natural states of consciousness.🧵

I am deeply grateful for this award, which not only recognizes my work but also reflects the invaluable contributions of my team, mentors, and supporters! It inspires me to continue working with my lab to deepen our understanding of how we perceive and interpret our environment.

Congratulations to @mpibrain.bsky.social director Gilles Laurent for being awarded the 2025 Louis-Jeantet prize for Medicine! The @louisjeantetfdn.bsky.social recognizes Laurent's pioneering work on the operations of #neurons and dynamics of neuronal networks. More infos 👉 bit.ly/4hqk6ie

Institute of Ophthalmic Research in Tübingen is happy to welcome @katrinfranke.bsky.social ! She joined us in January 2025 and wil establish a new "Neuronal Computation in Vision" Group. Congratulations !! @unituebingen.bsky.social @tueneurocampus.bsky.social 👉 further information bit.ly/4fZR1c3

Sex or survival—what’s more important? Excited to share our @Nature paper on how flies resolve this conflict. We found a dopamine-based filter that reduces threat perception, helping flies focus on courtship when close to mating. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

New paper from the lab, beautifully summarized by first author @joeribordes.bsky.social check it out 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

I'm thrilled to be opening my own lab this Fall at the @maxplanck.de MPI for Brain Research in Frankfurt. The lab is going to investigate the neuronal and genetic underpinnings of behavioral evolution. We are hiring on all levels. Don't hesitate to share widely and reach out if interested.
