INTO THE RAPIDS opens with a power outage and guess who doesn’t have power right now? Someone with a very special box of author copies! #PowerOutageUnboxing #ComingMay13th

I'm so excited to attend this staged reading of FLIGHT OF THE PUFFIN the weekend of 6/7 in NYC! Isabella Manhart, a fabulous non-binary playwright from Nebraska, has done an amazing job. I honestly like it better than the book! Tickets are free & available now! www.broadwayworld.com/off-off-broa...

Two Good Things: 1) My daughter and I are back home & she's doing well! 2) I get to connect w/ readers soon to celebrate the release of INTO THE RAPIDS, including an event at Anderson’s with one of my very favorite people and authors, Jasmine Warga! If you're nearby, I hope I get to see you!

Currently reading: The Trouble with Heroes. And… @katemessner.com I do believe the only proper response to how’s it going? for the foreseeable future is “I am not lost in the woods or being stalked by a panther or getting swatted by a bear.”

INTO THE RAPIDS comes out in about a month & I'm excited to share this review! With my brilliant editor @nancyrosep.bsky.social by my side, I set out to write a story short enough to be accessible to lots of readers, while still telling a deep, meaningful story. Glad Booklist thinks we nailed it!

I am really loving The Secret Library by Kekla Magoon and I am not surprised. Kekla Magoon is one of my favorite authors. app.thestorygraph.com/books/87ccc5... #booksky

Today is the day! 70 students competing at the state level for National History Day! These students experienced, in real time, the disappearance of source documents from once trusted government websites. Now they compete in a contest that has lost funding. They are witness to the dismantling.

This week’s writing prompt is inspired by Holly Hatam’s art in our picture book A GOOD DEED CAN GROW. I’m also sharing my response to writing prompt #11, taking inspiration from a field trip. open.substack.com/pub/jennifer...

Meta stole 7 of my books and used them to train its crappy AI. I don’t want them to pay me for something I would never have sold them, for any amount of money. I want them to erase the whole thing and start again, from scratch, without using any stolen IP. That’s the remedy I seek.

We Need Diverse Books (WNDB) is launching its inaugural “We Need Diverse Books Day” April 3 to highlight the importance of access to inclusive reading. (USA TODAY)

Excited to share that @modoodles.bsky.social & I have a picture book coming out this summer, GO, BABY, GO (an epic parent-kiddo jogging-stroller adventure), and that it already has a rave review from Kirkus! Please consider preordering from your local indie bookstore &/or requesting at your library.

This week has mostly been about settling my daughter at her program (it's been going well so far!), but I also a school visit trip to Kansas. I was supposed to visit four schools except at one school, teachers were told stop reading FLIGHT OF THE PUFFIN aloud and the visit was canceled.... (1/4)

A year ago, my daughter Alice (who was then 11) had to be hospitalized for a month because she was so suicidal. It turned out that she had developed severe OCD that was constantly yelling at her in her brain that she needed to be perfect and that if she wasn’t, she needed to punish herself. (1/8)

There's a GoodReads giveaway of INTO THE RAPIDS if you want to get a copy before it comes out in May! www.goodreads.com/book/show/21... Or, if you're me & want to read lovely things people said about a book you wrote to get a nice warm feeling in your insides, the link currently works for that too.

Thank you to @traceybaptiste.bsky.social for creating this useful graphic. Looking for tangible and practical ways to support authors in these challenging times? Here are some ways that require very little heavy lifting and that can have a very big impact.

I've uploaded my mother's testimony to Scribd. It's not on record at the National Archives, I was told. There will be less access, going forward, if not actual expunction from the record of actual, lived history. www.scribd.com/document/833...

I had the honor of reading the ARC and yes, this needs to be read by ALL!
